What is the maximum range you have personally fired or witnessed the 7.62x39 cartridge fired from an AK type weapon? I am not talking about max range as published in manuals, but real world experience. Please include AK model (e.g., SAR, WASR, etc), barrel length and group size (if you fired groups).

Best Regards,

I've seen an AK shot at 1000 yards. 5 out of 40 rounds hit the paper in a 9 inch group....

Furthest I've shot my SAR-1 was at 500 yards at metal rams. Probably about a 15% hit percentage standing and shooting at them. At 300 yards and under, any man sized target is a cinch with the 7.62.

az-ar,

Thanks for the reply. Were you using the irons or optics?

I took out a 4" boomer at 385 yards walking the shots in. It only took ~1000 rounds.
