update:  Short video from SHOT  says 2nd Quarter release date

Magpul rep also says they are currently "testing that market" referring to future Magpul AK products, so fingers crossed we'll see some more stuff one day.

It's about damn time. Although they are super easy to modify to fit, this is a better option. I like. So... will they make a sweet bakelite color?

could be a shadow, but it looks like it extends to me. I like the idea, but would really like it if it fit properly.

The article says it's a pre-production model.  Magpul may make some final adjustments before it's released.

Looking at the picture, I don't think it would take much time with some sandpaper to make it fit flush with the plate though.

You were right.  Saw another pic from the show.  It definitely overhangs...about the same amount as an S12 grip.  Hope they fix that.

I bought an ACE AR15 grip > AK adapter for $7 off brownells for the MOE-K grip, needless to say it is horrible and doesn't seat flush for M70, I'm guessin either the AK trigger guard was made not to spec or its not intended to be used as described. Took me 2 hours with a soder to get it to this state. Will dremel it again to try and make it flush but so far it feels horrible, the sides of adapter makes your thumb/index hug around it, feels like your holding onto a bowling ball chambered in 762x39.

Think I'll wait till after Shot show and get the Magpul AK MOE grip instead

Not bad, but I don't think it will unseat the Molot grip as my favorite.
I personally find the MOE AR grip to be slightly to small for my tastes, wonder if the AK version will be the same size.

Yuck.

Boring and plain, just like their AR grips, i'd use a plain old A2 grip before i'd use this overpriced unimaginative crap.

Agreed price them in line with the steel mags like they did with the AR and they would make a killing.  Plus it would give another US option out of Tapco and US Palm.  Neither of which are a proper solution to the US mag issue.

Sparky can you share how you did your DIY with your MOE grip? I used the AR>AK adapter but failed horribly, Ive heard of others dremel MOE grips to fit but not enough details or pics of the rear or clear shots, thanks!

I hope against hope for ak pmags. I'm not sure they are going to be able to make a competitive magazine, not because of the technical challenge, but because the research and development coupled with overall manufacturing costs would put them in the red if there were ever a nation-wide ban on high caps.

That said I would order 100 ak pmags, cost be damned!

I'd rather see Lancer make AK mags and do steel reinforcements on the feed lips and locking lugs.  If they can make them for the same price as their AR mags, I'd buy them.  Of course if magpul did the same thing it would get my attention.

I just want good, reasonably priced mags with steel reinforcements.  US Palms are just too expensive.

THIS.

Until they do this, i'm not buying any plastic mags, I saw what one range trip did to a Tapco, zero chance i'm gonna bet my life on them, and even a less than zero chance i'm gonna pay double the price to buy an equally sketchy US Palm.

agreed, what we need is some good magpul steel reinforced AKmags. Persoanlly I'm good to go with my US Palm grip.

Agreed. All plastic AK mags are just a bad idea, too much wear on the locking lugs. I also don't like fully plastic feed lips, though I can live with that.
My big gripe(and the reason that I don't own any) with the US Palm mags is that they cannot be taken apart.
Lancer AK mags would be most welcome or if Magpul decided to go all crazy and do steel reinforced AK mags I'd be down with that.

The one thing about plastic mags is they won't chew up your mag well or the bottom of your receiver.

It would seem to me you can always tell an AK that used steel mags because when the mag was changed out it was likely not perfectly inserted so it slams against the bottom of the receiver by the mag well causing little dings/marks. A plastic mag won't do that. Granted, it is not that big of a deal since it is an AK and probably loves to be beat on anyways.

i tend to keep my fingers as far away from the gas tube as possible....proper grip form with an AFG puts part of the hand along the top....which would be right on the gas tube.  You go right ahead.  I like my fingers the way they are...without a bunch of burn scars.

Well if we want magpul mags and handguards the first step to getting them will be to buy the hell out of these grips.
