who sells them? .....which ones to stay away from?..... how much?.....how is building diffrent than a stamped reciver?

from what i see,..it looks like after you get the trigger guard rivets and barrel pressed and head spaced your pretty much done right?

the reason i ask it ive got this AK-104 (7.62) barrel assy i got from k-var a while back, i was wanting to put it on a stamped reciver, but i cant find a front trunnion to fit it,....

so i was trolling around gun broker and saw the same exact ak-104 kit/parts but only on a milled reciver so maybe i have to use a milled reciver but ive only held a milled ak once and dont know all that much about them,.....so any help or info would be super kick ass

The Firingline is the ONLY place to get a milled reciever that will work for your build..
they are expensive ,,, 300-to over 400  depending on the options..
They are machined very nicely and the action is silky smooth..

No, the link is http://www.angelfire.com/ok3/firingline/page2.html.
I saved up and had them build a Russian kit I bought from Sportsmans Guide.  It was expensive but now I have a great and fairly unique rifle.

Another source is Ohio Rapid Fire at http://rapidfire.targetweb.net/cgi-bin/store/agora.cgi/agora.cgi?cart_id=8243560.9296*1022r3&p_id=02041&xm=on&ppinc=big.

well i found the firing line if the prices are still current,.its gonna be $430.00 for a side folder,.and i want a custom serial#, and a rail slaped on,...........its only money right?( my poor wallet --> )

i looked at the ones from ORF,.. but it looks like it is made for a standard non-folding butt stock,.... i been gnawing my toe nails off  for to long waiting on a AK-100 series side folder to come in from russia,.. i gotta ,..absolute gotta have a side folder if im gonna be  forking out as much coin as i think i am gonna.

the way i figure im gonna get real close to 14g with the SBR stamp,.. damn i thought pawning off my AR-15 would do it,...that only got me half way

well i guess for a second time in one day ill have to pick something to sell off at least the AR went quick,............. tell me again that its worth it

so did you send them your kit or did you build on there reciver?

if you sent it out,..hows there work? how where they to deal with?

if you built it on there reciver,.. what do i need to know about building on a milled reciver?

i got a email from them today,..they want $150.00 to install, headspace,. and pin the barrel,
and another $50 to make it a side folder for a AK-100series folding stock,.. i thought the only diffrence between the skelaton stock and the synthetic was the stock itself and all the hardware was the same

i dont know if i can justify paying some one that much to do the same thing i could with the right drill bit.

I built mine myself last year...
i used a threaded barrel, which means alot of work..  you have to index the barrel to start with , which means when the barrel is tight the sights and gas system must line up.. you have to mill the
barrel stop on the barrel..  the next step is to headspace.. 2 way to do this  mill the lock lugs in the receiver or mill the lugs on the bolt..The FL mills the reciever...  either way it requires precision
machining ,, you are not going to build a threaded barrel milled reciever with a dremmel tool and a
drill.. if you are not equiped for this let some one who is do the build..   you make a mistake and that high priced reciever is toast......

well after hearing that there no way in hell im doing a threaded barrel!

what about a pinned barrel?... should be install the barrel,.headspace,..dirll the slot for the barrel pin  slap the pin in,. re-check head space,..and waaah-laaaa,.. drive on

or am i missing something?

do you need the selector stop plate on the trigger guard for a milled reciver? looks like there is a space machined in there for that part

just out of curiousity,...why threaded?

A pinned barrel milled reciever is avaliable also.. they build just like a stamped reciever..
press in the barrel , head space  and pin..

Why a threaded barrel ??  because  most milled kits have a threaded barrel..  you will have to machine the threads off  to use the barrel on a pin type reciever.. again this is not something
most people can do at home as it requires a lathe ..

Patmi41,
he does not have a threaded barrel.

"the reason i ask it ive got this AK-104 (7.62) barrel assy i got from k-var a while back"

He does need to measure the barrel diameter at the trunnion (22mm or 23mm) and make sure that he orders the correct receiver.

Did you build a setup for holding the barrel assembly and then screw the receiver in place, when you built your rifle? Also what do you do after you time the barrel if the headspace is excessive?
thanks

you mean what did i use to hold the barrel ?? when tightning the reciever ??

I used a leather padded wood oak blocks with bolts thru the wood.. tighten the bolts pinching the
barrel ,, clamped in a vice to hold it.. then tightened the reciever with a large wrench..   the barrel
did not move and no marks were left on the barrel..

After the barrel was tight and properly indexed.. the bolt would not close at all..
there are 2 ways to headspace.. machine the reciever .. cut the lock where the lugs lock in to
or machine the bolt lugs..  i did the bolt..  i wound up taking  24 thousants off the lugs for the bolt
to lock up and have the proper clearance..  the hard part is you have to machine the exact same amount off both lugs  and not change the angle .. its a machine and try process thats time consuming..
The FL machines the reciever..  i didnt want to do that.. one mistake and that $430.00 reciever is trash... bolts are replaceable..

I'm having my AKS-74U Bulgy parts kit from K-VAR built using a Firing Line milled receiver.

Missouri Custom Armament is doing the build for me.

Let's see:
$700 for the parts kit
$400 for the receiver
$??? for the labor & misc.
No SBR's in Illinois

This is just f*ck*ng insane

BUT, it will be a unique, one-off collectable built using what could be the last of the parts sets we see due to the barrel ban in December.
