Why would they/you want to?

Exactly. It performs just like 7.62x39 but at 5-6x the price.

Makes no sense.

Sounds like one of those oh cool ideas until you realize its just a 7.62x39 bullet in a smaller casing at a slower rate of travel. Might be cool for subsonic suppressed ammo though. I would rather have an AR in this role though. GM makes a barrel blank for 300 blackout, and one could be turned on a lathe to the correct profile for the application. Might be money and time consuming. BUT if ammo got quite a bit cheaper I would consider doing one for poops and grins.

If you mean 6.5 Grendel, I would be all over that.

So, you want a round in your AK designed for the AR as a copy of the original AK round.

You could save yourself a lot of trouble and just get an AK in 7.62x39.

InRange almost did.. there just wasn't enough interest to make it worth doing.

Most people get into AK's because they want things to be cheap. .300blk isn't cheap by any stretch. I know.. reloaders.. but most people don't do that.

I have 2 AKs and 2 ARs. I was thinking about a .300 upper, and after researching the ballistics, came to the obvious conclusion that since I already had reliable platforms for basically the same round, and plenty of ammo and magazines, it would be ridiculous to get into yet another caliber. Since one AR is a 1:7, I started playing around with the heavier loads. Now, I'm shooting 40gr to 69gr with the 1:9 AR, 69gr to 77gr with the 1:7 AR, and 123gr to 154gr with the AKs. That's good versatility out of the two most popular carbine calibers.

...the technical nature is not an issue. The reason it hasn't been done is because there is no real demand or market for it on a production level. "Being cool" doesn't equate to a profitable project....
