Avoid them, they pretty much suck.

You want Polish, Romanian, Hungarian or other Warsaw Pact Military mags.

Indestructable and dependable as a hammer.

How many mags are you looking for?

I have a bunch of the Hungarian mags and can strongly recommend them...function perfectly in all of my AK-pattern rifles.

What about Croatian?

https://www.sgammo.com/product/surplus/30-round-ak-47-mag-new-condition-croatian-steel-magazines-bolt-hold-open-follower

These are supposed to have a bolt hold open follower?

There are many reports that they need modified to fit most rifles and I have a couple that needed a little work with a file to fit

This is the answer you seek.  Any combloc surplus is what you want.

Whatacountry.com has about the best prices going on milsurp combloc mags and extremely fast shipping. Last ones I received from them were completely submerged in cosmoline -- kind of felt bad for taking them out of their cosmoline cocoon.

It pays to make a small list of mag vendors and check them regularly if you are looking for mags, I got 25 Hungarians a couple weeks ago from another vendor, 10.50 each on sale.

The Croatian mags seem to look good as far as build quality goes.

I got a Harbor Freight belt sander and it made quick work of the area that needs to be ground down.

A quick touch up with some cold blue and they are good to go.

I haven't done extensive testing but every mag has so far locked up good, fed ammo great and locked back on the last round.

I have one Croatian mag. It malfunctions every now and then in my VEPR and M92.

Locks in, but I just don't trust it.

I would recommend the Hungarian mags.

Next time I'm in PA, I could sell you some mags in person. I have about 40 of them. Steel 30 and 40, Bulgarian plastic 40. Quality stuff that doesn't jam. I'm getting out of the AK market and going more toward ARs. If you're still looking for mags, send me a PM. I might wait till I'm back in PA or maybe I'll just make a listing on the equipment exchange. I bought these years ago when they were $9.

Yes.  BHO are the cheapest I stock up on.  Anyone in this thread, don't buy Croatian or Korean mags.

Yes, the old BHO's for the M-64's and M-70's/72's are great. I still find these at gun shows for around $15 a pop in very good condition. YMMV

I bought new steel bulgarian mags from CDNN for $14.99. The mag follower and spring floor plate are polymer but the mag body is steel same as the bottom floorplate.

Those have the polymer body for $11.95. Im talking about the ones with the traditional ribbed steel bodies. Numrich does have the new Bulgarian steel ribbed body but they want $20 each for them.

Avoid Koran Mags like the Black Death...

Go Euro Warsaw Pact Surplus - period.

Doesn't matter is Hungarian, E. German, Romanian, Bulgarian, or Polish (although I happen to think the East German & Polish as the best of the bunch)

The Bulgarian steel ones are $12 too. Got 7 for  $84 shipped to test.

My bad, at first I type in Bulgarian AK magazine in the search bar and showed the price $20.00. Second time I clicked on the link for magazines followed by clicking on the link for ak magazines and there it was.. they must have the same magazines under two different pages or links. My apologies.

Bulgarian Isd/ polymags review

The mags in this youtube review are the new Bulgarian production not cold war surplus. They have the polymer follower and spring base, the same mags CDNN or Numrich are selling.

you have to actually click on the item for it to show up at those prices. the Search will still show 20 bucks a pop, but once clicked on the steel ones show 11.95

the polymer ones are actually 9 bucks

I noticed you didn't list Russian.... I'm assuming either those are the best or should outright be avoided?  They carry a hefty price tag...

I have a choice between either Bakelite or Steel Waffle.

Soviet era mfg mags, modern Izhmash, Tula mfg mags are ok to go. You dont really see Russian ak mags unless they're bakelite AK-47 or AK-74 mags. They did make steel ribbed mags but you don't see them advertised for sale.

I had a problem buying AK magazine at What a Country, Inc.
I bought an AK magazine for my son who lives in FL. I'm currently located in NY.
Paid, got an order number, placed my son FL shipping address at checkout but in a few days they said: "We will not process large capacity magazine orders with a billing address in any of the restricted states/areas".
I told them that the item goes to Florida and nobody brakes the law. Nothing happened and the order has been canceled.
Very disappointed with that company. I never had any problems buying the AK magazines from other sources online.
