I'm going to laugh when 7.62 will be plenty again. I think this will be a short lived shortage.

Anyone try to buy even common .45 acp ball ammo lately? (From discount stores, not the full price places.) 7.62x39 isn't the only ammo running short out there. Now I'm on SG's backorder list for TWO kinds of ammo! Geez!
Last week I got a 100 rnd box of Winchester .45 ball ammo at a Wal-Mart. Today I found one box of 50 at the other Wal Mart across town. That's it! No more in stock. And the ladies there barely speak words let alone "ammo talk" so they have no clue when more will come in. They charge $10 plus tax for 50 rounds. Pretty good price. Local shops and the range charge $12 to $15 for that stuff.
Staying on SG's backorder list is  the only way to go. And if you sign up with "Fat Wallet", SG gives you another 6% rebate after the sale. That another $12 off a $200 order that you already got the member's discount and a $15 off coupon on!

damn that 7.62 auction is pretty smart actually. might put some of my stash up on gunbroker.

there was some guy at the range yesterday shooting a WASR with 3x9x40 scope, laser, syn stock, etc...the works . [also another guy with a similarly equipped MAK90 but he had a lazer and psl style flashhider... yuk)
he was asking about my 74' i had out there (afghan era 74 clone with russian wood.) . He was looking to pick one up but did not want to pay $600 for one, only wanted to spend $300.  told him if he gets one he better find a source for 5.45 ,,and 7.62 for that matter.
he says, oh 7.62 is no problem i get it from the  academy sporting goods store just today. (i think it is 15c-20c a round??) tell him i dont spend more than 10c a round ever. he tells me he does not spend time searching for cheap ammo or something?

that EG bakelite ad is just plain retarted

My first assault weapon was a Norinco Type 56 with underfolding pig sticker when I was 15. It came complete in a wooden box marked with Chinese charachters complete with 6 magazines, cleaning kit and chest rig. I lived in a smaller town in SD and 7.62x39 was difficult to find and often times guys were selling it for 6.00 for 20 rounds. The internet was still "newer" and I didn't have the contacts/resources that I have now, so I was limited in my options.Besides, my parents hated it and would have certainly confiscated any shipped ammo. In Brown County SD 250.00 is probably the going rate for 7.62x39. It seems obscence, but my old town is still selling magazines at "ban" prices. Conversely, my AK guy was selling cases of Wolf for 225.00 at the last gun show, and he was getting that much for them. He's a friend, so I paid 165.00 and I plan on buying 3 more cases this week for that price. Its supply and demand, I might have paid that much considering I just got a new AK and the ammo shortage have prevented me from using my Yugo underfolder as a bullet hose with the stock collapsed. Before I over paid for Wolf, which is supposed to be "cheap", I would price out WWB or other domestic ammo and try to buy that, provided it was similar in price. Its not unavailible, just much more expensive than we are used too. All sources seem to indicate we are near the end of the shortage and hopefully we have all learned to keep a few extra thousand rounds laying about. Don't scoff at this auction to much, he will more than likely get that and its likely the going rate for this ammo where he lives.

I just spit up my dinner reading this.  Knock the crap off, none of these items are worth that much.. Ths being said someone out there will think they are etting a great deal and buy them.  My last 7.62x39 ammo cost $54 for a case of 500.

there's also a 640rd tin of wolf already up to $110.

I think when i hit the gun show this weekend i might pick up a few cases from the regular guy for $85 and turn a nice profit.

There were a few guys asking a lot of money here at the gunshow.  $250 for a case of 1200.   They were out of thier freaking mind.  I went around and  I found a guy that was selling cheaper though.  Picked up his last 500rds for $60.

There seems to be alot here.  I got wolf .45(500rds.) 8 bucks for 50rds.  They still had plenty and most other brands too over at Gander Mountain.  No 7.62x39 or .223 of course, which by the way was on sale for 2.50 a box.

Is 7.62 really in short supply?  When I was at Gander's last (a week or two ago), they had a whole stack of Wolf cans of 640 rnds for 64.99...

At my local shop, the Wolf 7.62X39 was more expensive than the Wolf .223 for the first time ever!  They only had 500 rds left, and they were wanting $70 for it.  I bought 500rds of .223 instead for a little less.
