Which would you choose, and how do you determine who made the receiver and how thick it is.

Big +1.  I also like the look of the Polish folders better.  I have a Polish folder and I like it very much.  Go Polish.

You have only to look at them side to side.

There was a little play in the stock (up and down) about a 1/4 of an inch on both.

Is that amount pf play normal?

Polish, many of the kits imported were new and never fired. Chrome bore a plus if you don't clean you AK's often. Should say somewere on the receiver who made it.

What is the price difference and who are the builders?

That to me would make all the difference.

There is a big difference between Vector and Vektor.  Vector arms is located in North Salt Lake City Utah.  And they build AKs from polish parts.  They have an excellent reputation.

I like the Yugo. The thicker "RPK" type receiver and manufacturing make it one helluva solid rifle, if you like that sort of thing. Being an "old guard" fan of Garand and M1A vintage, I like to know when I'm shouldering a solid rifle; and the yugo shoots and feels that way to me anyway. If you clean it after use the chrome bore is not such an issue, and outside of a battlefield environment it's just not somthing I "need" in an AKM. They yugo is a great product. Love the polish underfolders tho; dont get me wrong. Hell, I got both but the Yugo is what I carry out to the farm and shoot moreso.

Ah OK, my wrong here. Sorry! Why does this company carries such a confusing name when building these rifles???

Luckily for us here in the Netherlands we can still get the original stuff. No kits here. We do have a problem though since August 2005: no more import of rifles that were changed from full auto to semi-auto... That means that the three pinned rifles that are here are on a sort of die out system. Only semi-auto from the factory is allowed now so even kits wouldn't help.
