I noticed that Leapers offers a Yugo quad rail. I know that Leaper's isn's Samson, however are thier AK rails servicable? I just wan't something to mount a VFG and light on, while looking cool.

Does anyone have one, Yugo or otherwise? How are they?

leapers = utg = low end, works but isn't as good of quality of lets say an ultimak set....

Come on, its going on an AK...
Link Posted: 7/21/2008 1:06:52 AM EDT
Not only is it going on an AK, its going on a CAI Yugo. I love my Yugo, and its among the best AK's I have ever owned, but its hardly a 1k+ Polytech or Krebs in terms of aesthetics or value. Its also the furthest thing from a defensive weapon in my use. I own a few AK's because everyone should....kinda like a lawnmower or spaghetti strainer. I don't eat pasta or mow my yard everyday, but those things are nice when I feel like it.

Also, I am not a member of DEVGRU-hence the Yugo AK, so I don't need a rail system that will withstand a helo crash. I just need something that is steel/aluminum and reasonably solid. It certainly can't be worse than the standard HG's that are on there now. I just want a rail to mount a VFG and light on that also looks cool.

Does anyone actually have one of these things?

I have two utg rail systems one on my ak pistol and yes one on an ar. I think their quality is very good and would rather spend my money on ammo than on high end rails. I am a ammo whore and shoot a lot of rocks and tannerite and if needed for zombie killing these would work very well.

Ryno,

I think the UTG will serve your purposes well, and they are built pretty solid. I have yet to read about one breaking or failing, so you should be OK.

Got one on an AMD65 with a CAA folding front grip and love it! I can't see how you beat it for the price. Lowest price I've seen (and where I bought mine) was AIM for $59. Only thing to keep in mind is you can't use the covers on the top rail with the iron sights

good luck

Very sturdy. I have a light, VFG, and RDP-II on mine. Good piece of kit for the money. But no, it surely isn't a Sampson or Ultimak.

Does the top rail of the Yugo Quad Rail block the view of the iron sights if used without the rail covers?

No, you can still use your irons. If you try to mount an optic, though, it will not co-witness.

Thanks, Castillo.

Does the Quad Rail with the rubber panels get hotter than wood grips?

How do the rubber grips hold up under the heat?
Link Posted: 9/27/2008 5:30:54 AM EDT
I have shot as much as 300 rds at one shoot and never had a heat problem with the rubber rail covers, and that being with my ak pistol which may or may not generate more heat. The same goes for the one on my ar.

Who is selling the Yugo version?
Link Posted: 9/27/2008 7:34:00 AM EDT
Yeah I also want to know because I want one for my YUGO

I installed one (customer supplied) on a romanian G build. I initally thought it was going to be a huge peice of crap and was supprised at how well it fit and how solid it was I would say it is even more solid than the surefire that I have.

Anyone use this with a VFG on an underfolder? I was wondering if you use a short grip if you can position so that you can fold the stock and be able to change a 30rnd mag.

Look at the pics in this thread. Looks like there is room on the end of the rail for a VFG that won't cause any interference with the stock or mags. It all depends on where you want to put the VFG, everybody seems to have their own preference.

Does the top rail of the Yugo Quad Rail make contact with the gas tube?

height=8

I would say the UTG quad rail system is only low end on price, not quality. It is very well made. It cost 1/5 of what the Ultimak system cost and it's worth every penny and more.

There are only a few high priced optics that can withstand the extreme heat of the Ultimak gas tube rail. Not so on the UTG system because the rail sits above the gas tube. I own both.

I think the UTG Quad Rail is made in China.

So when you install it, you lose 1 US part (the plastic handguards).

So on the Yugo, am I right in thinking one can install a Quad Rail and still be compliant with the federal import regulation? (counting the US Green Mountain barrel (1), the US DC receiver (2), the 3 piece G2 Tapco trigger group (3-5), and the Century slant brake (6))?

big tex - just do what I did, put a us made break/hider on the threaded barrel as your good to go!

Link Posted: 9/28/2008 9:26:41 AM EDT
Century M70AB2 compliance parts:

PG = 1
HG = 1
Receiver = 1
Barrel = 1
FCG = 3
Brake may or may not be Century marked, so the rifle may have 7 or 8 compliance parts.

Thanks magicmissle and liquidmetal. Cool gun with the rail.

Buick - Did you have to change out the handguard retainer to get it to work on your AMD-65?
