I'd love to go buy a rifle or two from ORF in Ohio, but I have a bit of a problem.

You see, I'm a resident of Maine.

However, I go to college in New York.

Someone told me that going to college in another state counted as a place of residence.

I also heard it was legal to buy a long-arm out of state if you lived in a state next to the state you're buying in.

Now assuming I know my geography, could I legally take a drive out to ORF and buy something?

Thanks!

I think you have to show your drivers license.

But no matter - just have the rifle shipped to a FFL dealer in Maine and do the transfer next time you go home.

Usually its the drivers license.

Oh you mean you want to buy it and take it with you............I don't know about that.

I know I can buy a long gun in North Carolina (an adjacent state), but I still have to show my drivers license. I wouldn't want to try it with just a college ID. I don't think ORF would go for it anyway.

Get an NY state ID if they have one. Should look similar just like a DL.

Contrary to popular belief.. Your State of residence DOES NOT have to touch the state you are buying a gun in..

The only thing that matters is that the purchase is legal in your state.. So if you can own AKs in Maine, you can buy them in Arizona if you like..

The only thing you can't buy out of state is handguns..

Besides New york does not touch Ohio...
