Between these two Russian red-dots which would you prefer or have used?
I like the Kobra as its more Eastern Europe to me but the PK-AV looks like it would be more durable.

If it was me, I would pick the PK AV over the Kobra.  The PK AV is based on the PSO body, sits to the left and back (which is lower than the Kobra).  When the batteries die, allows you to use the irons if needed right away w/o removing the optic.  Seems to be more rugged.  Great if you're left eye dominant.  Easier to adjust with the turrets w/ moa.  Cheaper.  Works in the rain & snow.

IMHO

Kobra has nice four pattern reticle, sits over the bore (if you prefer that arrangement).  hmmmmm, what else?

Thought that the PK-AV was an over the bore sight?

Both the Kobra and PK-AS are pretty damm tough. I've shot with both and my opinion is the PK-AS is better.

1) If it's raining the PK-AS is still usable. The Kobra will get water on the emitter and x-mas tree.
2) Battery life. For daylight shooting you don't need the battery, the black dot work fine. If the battery/electronics does fail, you still have an aiming point.

If the comparison was with the PK AS vs. PK AV, I would choose the PK AS everytime for the above reasons.  With the PK AV coming in second.

Must have missed something.
Why would you choose the AS over the AV?

The PK AS is the Russian version of the Eotech.  It has the circle and dot on all the time.  When it gets dark, you switch it on and the dot will be illuminated red.  Of the two, it's the better sight.  Comes in two mount options.  Left and over the bore.  The ring could be used as a ranging estimate.  The PK AV is just a red dot that must be turned on.  The PK AS is always on (sort of).

Leupold has copied the ring and cicrle design to their new red dot.  Except that the ring and dot are both illuminated.

There is already a thread on this.

is AS parralax free i wonder...and when purchased, does it come together with the mount?

slightly off topic...

anyone have pictures of HOW LOW the BP-02 AK to Weaver LOW mount sits to the receiver??? I see plenty of pics of the mount, but none mounted.

and does the offset mount (which seems closer/lower to the receiver) pose any problems?

i take it you zero it in at 100 yrds...?

Thanks, looks low enough

Wonder if it's off-set or directly over the center bore

Here is a pic of the PK-AS-S and mount that comes with it.  I bought this from Tantal last year. I really like it.  It isn't that difficult to get used to the optic being offset.

Here are a couple of pics of the Kobra EKP-1S-03M   mounted on my SA M-7A1R.  I also bought this with mount from Tantal.

Anyone have any suggestions about the PK-AS and the 2 types of mounts.  The offset looks a bit awkward and the over bore looks too high to get a good cheekweld.

Anyone have any recommendations?

I've got a PK-AS-S.  Love it, alway ready for action.  No batteries needed.

Note- this is the Military version and not the PK-AS-V (V for Vepr) civilian version.

The left side offset puts it right in front of you.

I can't imagine why anyone would choose the over the bore version unless they are left handed.

I think people are put off by the asymmetry of the PK-AS-S.  Just remember, the rifle is offset to one side of the shooter, so asymmetry just brings the optic back in front of you.

I notice that alot of poeple that get the V version can't seem to get a comfortable set up.

All I can say is why not  start with the version designed by the military and not the version designed by some marketing hack.

actually im left handed and have the side mounted one, a little tilt on the rifle and i actually have a pretty good cheek weld, although it might look kinda gangsta it works pretty well.

I just bought a PK-AS and notice there's a very faint black line running through the center of the field of view.  It's fuzzy and hard to see but it is there.

Anybody else notice this in their sight?  Or did I get a bad one?

Is it vertical?  If so, that's the "chord" that changes the drop of the bullet impact at different ranges when you adjust the ballistic cam.  Should be very faint.

What?

The faint line is normal. I've always assumed that it's related to the center dot illumination. The only elevation adjustment on a PK-AS is external, the ring and dot never move. BSW

My bad, It's the line for red dot illumination from the battery.  Thinking of a different sight.
