Why doesn't anyone make an AK with a 'flat top' receiver, i.e. the rail machined straight into the top of the receiver for the mounting of optical and electro optical sights?

just curious.

The AK reciever is the lower part, the top part is the action cover and most have too much movement to be effectively used for mounting optics. There have been a few Folks who have removed the rear sight assembly and welded a rail in its place.

because it is not a stable platform to mount an optic too.

slightly releated to this....I was thinking....(I know, bad)

Cut the tang like with the ace adapter, but have the adapter block extend like 1.25 inches  or maybe a little less, with a little bit of picatinny on it to mount a buis style rear sight?

Kinda like the tang sights for old lever guns....

I know...no ar parts on an AK...Bad Yek....

ok, I had figured the top part (receiver was all that came to mind last night) was maybe too thin and/or too flimsy to have a rail machined into it but wasn't sure. Its just one of those questions that had always nagged me.

to 'darkest2000': Ever heard of red dot sights? Sure maybe putting a scope on your ak might not make it a tack driver, but putting a red dot sight or something similar on any gun can make sighting up quicker and easier.

yeah you know me, a raging crapco whore.  anyway I wouldnt trust a company that labels a european rifle "mak90" and uses ATI stocks.

seriously, if you are dead set on a optics rail on top, get the side mount picatinny rail adaptor from freedom optics.
