got this in the mail today from Military Gun Supply, the product had no picture but I was sure when I purchased it that it would be the OD sling I see on Russian AKs. It looks identical to the one that came on my WASR years ago.

Doesn't look like any of the Russian slings I have. That looks like slings I've received with the SAR series. Romanian.

This is my Russian

By damn I think I have a Russian sling. I picked it out of a box of slings at a gun show in Oshkosh and I think I paid a dollar or two at most for it. What kind of markings will it have? White stamped stuff?

I would say probably no, looks Romanian to me.

Here is an example of both....

Tantal has some in stock, I got this pic from his site.

I've seen one just like that on a Tantal and a Polish AKM under folder. Have also seen that sling with a "dog collar" instead of the "D" ring. Dog collar looks just like the Mosins's.

well mother -@#$@^!

not sure if I should send it back, it only costs 7 dollars plus shipping, will probably cost me 5 dollars to ship it back. It is nice and strong, but just wanted the authentic Olive drab color of sling they use. anyone know where I can get one of those?

You didn't overpay for a Romanian sling. That one you have is a very serviceable one indeed.

MGS has misidentified a few items that I've purchased in the past, as well. One time I purchased what were supposed to be accessories for the Mas36 rifle. I e-mailed AND called them to make sure that they were indeed for the Mas36. They said both times that they were. When the stuff arrived, I got a Swedish leather sling and a few German mauser accessories. Not a single Mas-related item in the whole lot. After that, I haven't been able to bring myself to purchase from them again. Just my experience, but still.

yeah, I'll probably just keep this. A wopping 9 dollars.

I'm satisfied with it, I've always thought they were durable rugid slings (the romys).

I guess if I'm able to find a russian one down the road I'll pick it up.

Travis- Situate the leather keeper between the buckle and the rear sling swivel. It keeps the loop from flopping around.

AK slings are another nice item for us poor guys to collect.

Here, Bulgarian top, East German middle, Soviet bottom.

Richard, dumb question but how do you get the leather tab over the metal buckle?

The front hook (end) will fit through the buckle, atleast that's how I did it.

P806 is right. The keeper doesn't have to go over the buckle.

I found some Russian slings in the "junk" box of a local hunting type gun and sporting goods store. I bought 8 of them in excellent condition for $4 each.

Alot of Russian AK slings came in with the Russian SKS's that were imported back in the late 80s and early 90s.Most of the Dealers, who still have some, don't know what they're worth.
