Is this simply a Romanian FPK with some furniture from soupbowl on it?

Looks like a Romak-3 to me (check out the handguard), with Soupbowl PKM-type furniture. I've seen that rifle before, on a Dragunov/Dragunov-Clone website.

Correct.
I spoke to Wes at Soupbowl, and if you want your Romak III retrofitted, ya gotta send it to him and about six weeks before you get it back. The only thing I did not like was the overlapping of the buttstock and the pistol grip. I would prefer to have the tail-end of the receiver welded up to have adequate space for both.... This weapon utilized a ROMAK III receiver. Notice how the tail-end is welded up with an additional piece of sheet metal? KF

Is the wood on the first rifle Maple? That actually looks pretty cool in a non-military kind of way. I wonder how much something like that runs?

definitely a romak3 rec and an m76 parts set...very nice.
the real m76 is milled. |

Yeah, actually its called flame maple. it can get fairly expensive depending on the grain selection of the wood. IM me if you are intrerested

Soup bowl has had a bad reputation. I wouldn't deal with him. After repeated e-mails asking about his stocks i NEVER got a response. If he's like this when your trying to give him money imagine what he's like after you actually give it to him. Have heard alot of bad things about soupbowl.

More than modify, that stock was made specifically to fit the Romak III by Soupbowl. I haven't had any dealings with him, I just wish his RPK stuff looked more authentic. |

Wes at soupbowl does very good quality work but he gets very engrossed in what he's doing and doesn't like to be bothered by the phone or email. Some people have not liked that which is understandable.
He was a pioneer in the AK furniture field and offers a wide selection of stock designs. If you want a basic compliance parts kit you should probably go elsewhere. If you need something unique or custom fitted to your gun you could do worse than Wes. |
