Chinese MAK 90 retrofitted with preban barrel, and enough parts to comply with 922r.

Campybob told me once...."The chinese like to forge everything on the AK..."

He was right.  It's one tough mutha.

I would have to say a Chineese folder, this would give you a good heavy duty manuverable AK.Possibly with a side rail attached for optics.

It would be the one I have, an FEG SA85 M. It's a post '94 gun that is all Hungarian - no U.S. parts. Thumbhole stock and no lug or flash hider. Beautiful workmanship and function. Highly accurate.

You can't go wrong with the VEPR if you can handle the non-traditional looks and slant-cut reciever. I've got 3 K models and I love'em.

Russian AK-74M, but seeing how this would be impossible... I would choose a Krebs AK-101 as my first and my second choice would be a Krebs AK-74M.

My Krebs AK-74M(N).  It's a dreamy rifle.

Also, I don't think the thread author meant any AK in the world, he meant any AK available on the US market in significant numbers.

Thanks all---I really appreciate all the great info. Was wondering about this ak-74 with the 5.45 mm ammo. Never even heard of it---I am getting way away from the AR because of the shitty little bullets, how is this one different---I really like the 308's and have many FAL's, but I love the AK.  Thanks again

i currently have an mak90, aka asianthug47, and a two saiga hunting rifles in .308 and 7.62x39.  my asianthug47 has a serial number beginning with 94, i wonder if this is before the dumb brady bill.  if anyone can help, please im me and i'll give the whole serial number for you to confirm if it is halfa preban; enough to put a folder on it.

i like my asianthug47 a lot.  it is very sturdy looking.  i also like my new saiga guns.  i know krebb and other gunsmith inc. modify the saiga into ak103 and charge a lot for it.  i think a modified ak103 can go for 700 bucks easily, while the saiga gun is only 160 bucks.  most of the fee will be for the labor; thanks to bs atf.

the saiga look great.  if i can only have one ak, i would be picking the saiga in .308 after it has been modified to have pistol grip or thumbshole stock along wit the capability to accept standard fal mags; which i have almost 100 pieces.  if the asianthug is legal to have a folder, then i would pick that.  it would be nice to have both though; one for me and one for my wife.

Asianthug47, imported rifles like your MAK fall under the '89 import ban, which is like the '94 AWB, only it came earlier and applied only to imported rifles.

Therefor, all MAK90s are postban.

Also, the Brady Bill is unrelated handgun legislation.  The 1994 "Assault Weapons Ban" is what you're thinking of.

my rifle is made in 94.  the awb is in september 94.  there is a chance my rifle was made before september.  is there a way to find out?  if it was made before the ban, can i put a folder on the baby?

thanks
