US, Bulgaria Expect Base Treaty by March
Stars and Stripes | Jeff Schogol | December 08, 2005
WASHINGTON — U.S. and Bulgarian officials expect to reach an agreement on basing American troops in Bulgaria by March, the Bulgarian Defense Minister said Tuesday.

The news came on the same day the United States signed an agreement to have bases in Romania.

I've got some military friends that have been at the newer bases we are setting up. They are impressed to say the least.

As one guy put it, its hard to imagine the most attractive woman you have ever seen is a common prostitute.

I hope the infusion of money into their economy can help, unlike some of the places we go, these are real people.

I am pretty sure there are already bases there. At the least, there has been an American presence there for a while.

"Joe" has been there (Bulgaria and Romania) for awhile....

Just like every other Eastern Euro country, you cannnot easily find AK parts.. Locals are more concerned with getting enough money to eat. They dont have money to waste on AK parts..

And like someone said, you will forget all about AKs while you are there..

dude they're all the same, I've been there (well not to SE Europe, but Poland and Germany, man, the hotties, blow away any hottie in america, and their average chics blow away what we consider pretty here

but I think this goes for most of europe, except Britain

I think the best I saw was in Holland. I mean dayyum. Has anyone else been there and can back me up? Even my dad, who is a very religious Christian that threatened to kick me out of our house at 17 cause I had a porn video, said it was beyond belief (quiety of course ). I think one of the contributing factors is those people are pretty damn healthy at their younger ages. Everyone walked or rode bikes, I think my whole time there and in Germany I never saw one obese person, or modertly over-weight female. Not that that's a bad thing, I like them kinda curvy but it was literally like we were in Super Model land.

btw, I'm too lazy to find that Czech hottie with the AK smg, can someone post it in here again?

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Eastern Europe-the only part of the Third World with blondes!

That's one thing I noticed coming back to the US after being in Europe... all the large obese people. You're right, you just don't see too much of that sort of thing there. When I was in Romania this past October, my Romanian friend and I were walking around Bucharest one cold evening and came across some guy sitting outside a cafe... he must have weighted 400+ lbs. My friend let out a big sigh... because she had never seen such a fat person in her life (I should mention that she's a physician too!). I told her that in the states you see people like that all the time.

Well, maybe Second World nowadays that the worst of the extrication from Communism is over. Still rife with organized crime, corruption, ultranationalism, unsettled questions about ethnic minorities, basic economic structural problems, problems from lack of democratic institutions...but I guess it isn't Ghana. Sure as hell isn't Canada tho, either.

Yeah, look back at the German reaction to the announcement of US plans to close bases. They were so sick of us that they were just beggin us to stay to be polite.

Actually it depends on where you go in Germany..

There are some small towns in Germany that are surrounded on all sides by US bases.... They would be hit hard..

Others, like Stuttgart (where I am) would barely notice.. Yeah, the Irish Pub and black clubs might go under, but thats about it.. Its not hard to find a German in Stuttgart that doesnt even know Americans are still here. There are only about 20,000 Service members and dependents in a metro area of 1 million plus...

There are only about 80K soldiers left in Germany..They are still spead out all over southern Germany.

In my wife's hometown in East Germany, there was a Russian military base. They were selling everything they had to include weapons when they pulled out. In '93 my uncle-in-law swore he could get me a russian AK for two cartons of "American" Marlboro reds. I figure with the low Bulgarian and Romanian economy....I bet the black market is flooded with AKs.

I agree with DVLDOG.....Czech women are better

I know the ladies that I see here in Kosovo are DAMNED hot though they do seem to age Fast after about 30 - 35. If you like your women to be slim or petite with large mammories, the Balkins is the place to visit.

Yes, but unlike Russia in 1993, Romania and Bulgaria are current candidates for EU membership for 2007. I don't know about Bulgaria but corruption has been one of Romania's major hurdles for EU membership. I seriously doubt they're going to risk some potentially illegal sales of AKs for EU membership. Romania already had to put a moratorium on international adoptions since they were being viewed by the EU as selling off their babies for profit... which was the case in many instances.

Bulgaria is an interesting place, been there and took a tour of the Arsenal plant. Very nice people the Bulgarians, I wouldn't mind a base being there. Lots of very pretty women and nice beaches. Sorry I was not allowed to take any pics of the place it is a very large plant over 20 square acres or hectares I cannot remember fully.

You guys need to get to Kazakhstan.

Been to CZ, DE, Hungary, none of which suck, but, you need to go to K-stan. You'd never guess it by the name.
