I have access to new SAR-1's for $299.
What do you think of this AK? Are they milled or stamped? Which is better? I also want to change the furniture to synthetic black. Is this a good price?

That's a great price for an SAR-1. You most certainly can't go wrong with one. Just be sure to check function as well as for canted sights.

I LOVE Romanian AK's. IMHO they are the greatest ak for the money. I shoot the crap outta mine. I bought a WASR-10 (which is kinda like an SAR-1 but came singlestacked-had to fix that) for 320.00 a year ago. It's my favorite rifle....just look what I did to it..

I'd buy it, I don't think you would be dissapointed.

I Love my SAR-1. I wanted black furniture too. (Actually I wanted an Arsenal Arm's SAM-7s but couldn't afford it - beautiful though) After getting used to my SAR-1, I am in no hurry to replace the wood on it.

Just be sure and check for front sight and gas tube cant. They are alot of fun! You'll like it I am sure!

I am lucky enough to live in Minnesota close enough to FAC to have picked one of the new laminated stock ones up in person from them. It is definately worth the money IMO. Mine has a straight gas tube and front sight, but a friend of mine got one with a canted gas tube that still functions 100%.

Love mine! Best $300 I ever spent. Course I spent about $200 more on it between the RSA trigger, retainer plate, and a new Ironwood stockset. It is the one on the bottom in this picture:

Gunsnstuff.net has them for $299. They also have the black furniture for $80. What would be an effective muzzle brake for this unthreaded barrel? Should my local FFL have any problems ordering my SAR-1 from the aforementioned company? Has anyone dealt with them before?

Fun gun. Go for it!

Should have no problem with FFL ordering from gunsnstuff. If so, there is always aimsurplus.com and jgsales.com. They got the same SAR-1's for sale I believe.

I don't know about muzzle break, but recoil isn't a problem for me at all w/ a bare barrel.

good luck with your purchase!

HighStrung 1 - Don't mean to hijack your thread, But wanted to ask jt325i if he put those recoil pads on both rifles or wether they came on the stocks already.
Looking for a good source for a recoil pad for my new SAR1.
Thanks
