Picked this guy up yesterday. The seller wanted $1075 but I was able to get him to come down to $850. I had a Bulgarian SSR-85 in ban configuration but sold it to a member here back in 2010 so I missed having an AK.

AES-10B with (3) 40rd mags, Russian furniture, and Russian mustard sling.

Few questions:

1) What's the difference a PKM bi-pod and an RPK bi-pod? Which one do I have?

2) What's the correct muzzle device for this RPK? Mine came with a slant brake. I've seen a lot of thread protectors in other pictures.

3) What brake would look "correct" or closest to correct and still be effective compared to something like a BC or SF brake?

4) Where do I find black synthetic furniture for this thing? I love the way an RPKM looks with the black furniture and Bakelite mags.

5) What optics (if any) would be correct?

6) Can you guys post some pics of RPKs being used by foreign militaries or Spetsnaz? I think I've seen one with an Eotech and it looked awesome.

Can't wait to shoot it Sunday.

You have an RPK bipod. The PKM style used on the heavy barrel RPK, uses an adapter bushing and has two pins on the sides of the barrel clamp.

The black poly stocks are out there but, you will pay a chunk of change for them.

Considering the times, you got a nice deal.

Nice rifle too.

Not sure what I on the 7.62 RPK in terms of muzzle device, but the 5.45 variants seem to have a small flash hider similar to the Chinese ones on the market.

Tapco ironically makes one.

You have the correct one

Muzzle nut. Aka, thread protector

3) What brake would look "correct" or closest to correct and still be effective compared to something like a BC or SF brake?

No idea

Russiansurplus.net has russian wood sets, and plum plastic h/g's advertised.
Muzzle brakes try CNCWARRIOR.COM.
Anything else try putting a WTB thread in the EE.Always have good luck with the board members here.
Russian optics try,Kalinka,or Eastwavescopes.

I use a .30 cal 74 muzzle break with a thread adapter on mine. Tames it even more than the extra weight of the barrel.

congrats, hopefully you do not end up kicking yourself for panic buying, but look at it this way, assuming nothing happens, it would still probably take a year or longer for the price on that gun to come back down.  and it is imported, which can lead to a whole slew of fluctuations in price and availability.

The lowest I ever saw them new was in the $650 range......even before the panic $850 would have been an OK price for an AES-10b. IIRC they only imported a fairly small number of them, and once people found out what they really were they sold out fast.

I like it with that beat furniture on it. It would look great distressed.

You may want to replace the trigger w a tapco

I would refinish the wood before replacing it. I think it would come out nice with shellac or Formbys tung oil finish.

It already has a Tapco G2 in it.

I love the way this looks but the mags were going for $150 before the panic.
