I'm thinking about it again. I've thought about it before, but know I'm not going to have to worry about getting approval from the wife (Divorce - yeah!).

So what is a good cheap, basic, AK. I don't care about the exotic stuff. I would just like a basic, reliable AK. I wouldn't want one with a canted front sight or anything like that, but I don't want to pay an arm and a leg for one either.

Look on the EE for a good SAR or something around $400......

Arsenal is the best WASR are the cheapest. Vector(long wait), avoid Vulcan(JoeKen), then thier is The Tantals at Military Gun Supply or possibly Ohio Rapid Fire(?).

Do you want 7.62x39 or 5.45x39?

If your willing to spend about $550 +shipping/Transfer fee, See joe at DPH Arms. He has the Polish Tantal, a 5.45cal side folder, and the Pole PMKMS a 7.62 Underfolder.

If it was me, I'd buy the underfolder.

I think I'll go with the 7.62x39 based on price of ammo, but I haven't ck'd prices for the 5.45 stuff. What do you think would be the cheaper to operate. I'm wanting to get a alternative to my ARs for some of my week end blasting, 5.56 is getting expensive.

You'll want to go with 7.62 for sure then....

Find a WASR and check it out. They are good rifles as long as you find one with straight sights. I love mine.

Pick up a SAR-1 on the EE.

That is all.

You will be happy with an SAR-1 if you can find one for $400 or less.
