please forgive me.

I used to make fun of AK's.
I used to think they were "Junky"

Obviously I never took a chance to give them a chance. In the past month or so I've spent more time in the AK parts and supplies EE than I have at work.

next thing you know you'll be building them

Resistance is futile.........

One of the beauties of the AK platform is that you can have twice as many AKs as you can ARs for the same money. Unless you build them like a lot of us do, then you can have an AK for under $200.
Link Posted: 2/11/2006 4:23:15 PM EDT
how can one build for under 200?

I found receivers at 65, parts kits at 100.oo but the 922 parts seem to be the catch
Link Posted: 2/11/2006 4:52:03 PM EDT
Tapco flat with rails=$15
Romy kit=$100
rivets=$8
boltcutter-$10
Century fcg off the EE=$12
pistol grip=$10
US brake =$12

grand total $167

substitute a G2 fcg=$195

substitute 100% receiver and G2=$245

Now $245 is without hunting for any bargains. For instance you can get Romy kits from Bocephus on AKfiles for as little as $85, and there are always bargains in the EE. You can often get good deals by putting an ad in the AK want to buy forum instead of waiting for a deal to come up in the for sale. Of course YMMV according to how much of the work you are willing to do to make this an inexpensive build. I built my AMD-65 pistol for well under $100.

Cold hard facts folks...

The more AK's you have, the more pussy you get

Wow, it seems AKs can be built for very very cheap. How hard is it to build one? Its more in my price range then an AR.

Is a cheaper AK still reliable and reasonably accurate?

I think I want one

SAR-1 is a damn fine example of an AK. I sold a SAR-1 a few months ago for $400.

This is the AK bump in question.

it is an amazing thing.

Assimiltaed is right. Almost exactly a year ago, sometime in Feb. I bought my first AK, a MAK-90. Now I have 4 AKs with tons of accessories, and a saiga-12 on the way. If someone had told me when I was casually thinking about getting one, that a year later I'd have this much money in AKs, I would have told them to put down the bong.

The catch is you have to bend/weld your own receivers, home parkerize/paint it and build a few to spread around the cost of the tools.

Under $200 is the old price with $60 AMD-65 kits, we'll never see that again.

NEW PRICE minus shipping and finish:

$100 Romy kit

Compliance parts:
$15 Receiver Flat
$18 Piston
$13 Rivets and Cross Member
$14 Muzzle Nut
$35 G2 Trigger Group

Total $195+ Shipping+Tools+Finish

I didn't add the cost of the tools as that is another can of worms and is totaly dependant on your skill and willingness to WECSOG.
The less you WECSOG and build like the factory, the more tools and the higher the price.

interesting.

Two questions..

What is WECSOG

and I dont think I have the capacity to bend my own receiver and spot weld the rails. Who's got a good, in stock, 100% receiver?
