This is my first time in the AK forum and I have no knowledge on the gun so please be kind. Friend's brother is saying he has a real russian ak47 that he got at a gun show. I'm calling BS because, if I'm correct, that would run $14k+ *assuming ak47 is like m16 and has to be full auto*. Is there anyway to tell if it's a true AK47 and not a WASR-10 or some other civie version? Thanks

probably a VEPR or SAIGA, he'd be half right since they are manufactured in Russia and imported as sporting rifles and most of the time converted to highcap with muzzle device, etc but not a Russian military issue real past AK-47 or present AKM-47 per se, just a derivative

we could tell you for sure if you see who was the importer/manufacturer and/or what the model number/serial number on the receiver, along with if it is a stamped or milled receiver

also, it depends on what your personal interpretation of what a russian AK-47 is, my opinion is different from the next guy and so on....

My opinion if it is a SAIGA or VEPR then is a "Russian AKM-47....ish rifle", others may not agree, other will say it's 100% a Russian AKM-47 because it has a majority of the design features and manufactured in Russia, there are so many variants per country manufactured for civilian and military use nothing really fits "what is this country's AK-47?"

If its milled the best bet is that its an arsenal, The gun should have where it was made stamped right there on the reciever, as well as importer and make model.

the only 2 made in russia are VEPRs and SAIGAs. He may have a converted Saiga, which is an all actuality a  real russian ak47. But neither are made with milled recievers.

Arsenals are also "Real" AK47s. but made in bulgaria. Available in both milled and stamped flavors

Then you also have Polytech and norinco. But made in china, both available with a milled reciever.

Chances are he got a siaga, Maybe converted. Does he even know the difference between a milled and stamped reciever.

Best thing for you to do is point him here and tell him theres all kinda lernin and teechin goin on round here......Many people are really interested to learn more about thier weapons after they buy them. When its before they buy them that they should trying to learn more about it...

We were martyred, for supporting free speech. and letting everyone know what a douchebag some of the mods there were. We will both not go back to that site. Basically cause its fake, I could go on about it all night but nobody wants to hear it. We rep over here now. But Stick mostly hangs out on the other side of the board and rarely posts much anymore, and I dont spend near as much time on here as I used to. the majority of our posts on this forum are in the EE
