Just curious how many that have AK's put some sort of optic on them, whether a scope or red dot. I have tried Ultimak's twice, but the iron sights just suck so I'm probably going back to the Ultimak and a PA AMD. I have SLR-95's which do not have the side rail attachments. Even though I could do a Master Mount they look heavy and awkward.

I have two with red dots, and several others with iron sights only.

I have done scopes and red dots.
Ultimak is the way to go if mounting small red dots. RS Regulate modular systems for anything larger. I don’t do scopes on AKs anymore. You have to take them off to clean the rifle, and that never sat well with me even though the zero was pretty repeatable. Red dots are nice because you can use the co-witness to verify zero returned, assuming your irons are on. |

I run mainly my historically correct rifles with irons and my "built for daily use" rifles with optics. I have a mix of US (Trijicon and Aimpoint) and Russian optics (Rakurs, Kobra, PSO-1, etc), all using the Russian pattern side optics rail. If they don't have built-in mounts, I use RS Regulate mounting hardware. Take a look at TX-Zen's site for more info:

Trijicon ACOG’s are my preference. Aimpoint RDS is my second choice. I want to try a nice LVPO and the Trijicon MRO (green).

Ran an ultimate with bushnell trs on a mak 90 and a slr106fr, ran an aimpoint t1 on a rs rail with a wasr10. Current setup is a rear based rs rail, Aimpoint PRO on a sam7sf. I got the rear based for future use with an acog.

I use a PA micro dot and ultimak on my SLR107FR. The other 3 just have irons. Whenever I get an SLR106F, I'll move the PA micro to that.

I have an Trijicon MRO mounted on an SLR Rifleworks railed gas tube and an Aimpoint T2 mounted on an Ultimak. Both are great setups — there is no co-witness with the MRO but I do have a cowitness with the T2.

Received and installed the Ultimak's today, waiting on the PA AMD's to arrive then install and sight in. The red dots are just so much better in all lighting conditions over the iron sights it's a no-brainer.

Just got an Attero Bravo, love it.
Perfect hight. About a 5 minute install. Very solid. No trouble with dust cover removal. Easily reversible if needed. |

My WASR & Saiga .223 have low powered (1-4x and 4x fixed) scopes on side mounts, AK63DS UF & Draco pistol have red dots.
I'm not a fan of the factory irons either. I like shooting iron sights on other platforms with aftermarket sights but I shoot better & faster with optics on my AKs. Last few scopes I've bought have been 1-4x scopes with etched reticles. Seems to be a good compromise between reliability & accuracy. |

Received and installed the PA AMD red dots on the Ultimak mounts and sighted them in. Muuuuccchhh better! The dot is just so intuitive and no more hunting for the sights and aligning. Just put the dot on the target and bang away, it's almost boring.

I use the AKOU stores Goat Fucker Anhialator combo. It's like God finally smiled on the AK!!
I also have an ultimak on there but mostly for flashlight mount. It is nice if I ever decide to mount a red dot. |

Sending my second PA Advanced Micro Dot back tomorrow, I ordered four and one of them received had defective/blem illumination stickers on the box. I discovered why when I looked through the sight at bright backgrounds and saw a digital "glare" around the dot where the others did not have that problem.

I have several rifles configured with the UltiMAK + Aimpoint Micro combo. https://farm1.staticflickr.com/788/40740834514_b316efc832_b.jpg https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4554/38331962964_ee9f9cc3b1_b.jpg Agreed! View Quote Curious about the light location related to the front sight. |

I have one of each. I have a Polish underfolder in the "classic" configuration with irons only, I consider it more of a historic piece and fun plinker than a fighting rifle. I enjoy working on my fundamentals with it, but honestly with the lack of cheek weld on the stock it needs a red dot like peanut butter needs jelly.
I run one of our MD-RB-AD micro dots on an Ultimak mount on my SBR AKS-74U. Great combo. Super fast to acquire and I've got it dialed in well enough to ring steel with ease at 100 yards. That's all I ask of that gun, if I want to shoot at 300 or 400 yards I have better options. MD-RB-AD is a great little red dot for $150 with a lifetime warranty (industry shill has to shill, but I'm totally serious too). The pic is me pretending I'm some sort of badass 5.11 model or private security contractor operating operationally in an operational environment, and not just a marketing dude who likes to take classes and play commando on weekends. LOL |

I have a Pa micro on RS did emount on my 106. Have a Sam7 inbound that will either stay irons or get the same setup. I am considering doing the Ultimak setup again on the 106 just to mount a light and allow for the stock to fold

MRO on my Polish Lynx. It's the Tactical model so the sight block is a rail, no leaf sight. I like it. I'd probably do irons on a full sized AK rifle. Idk.

ACOG with RS mount on Krebs 103k, Aimpoint H1with RS mount on Krebs 74k, Aimpoint M3 with RS mount on Chris Butler 104, and Aimpoint M2 with RS mount on a Ak105 build.

These are how mine are setup now. This pic is from a previous setup using TRS-25's, but is essentially what they look like now using the PA Advanced Micro Dots. I couldn't get used to the setup, the unmodified AK's just felt better, but the improvement a red dot adds just cannot be ignored.

Awesome. Exactly what I was looking for. Thank you.

View Quote I didn't like the muzzle brakes, didn't feel they were necessary and I refuse to pay the ridiculous prices for suppressors they're asking considering the simple devices they are. And I refuse to pay the bribe to be allowed to install them. They are either so dangerous they need to be banned outright or not dangerous enough to warrant being banned. But to pay for an exemption, that's bribery. |

I'd respectfully say that for a red dot only I'd go with the Attero arms mount instead of the Ultimak, unless having a light is mandatory. Even then you can roll with an RS BM-1 http://zenphotos.net/zenphotos/file/Online/svd/optics/74UF_PBS-1_Left03.JPG View Quote |

I really hate the Ultimak but so far I haven’t found a better more streamlined way to add a red dot. So I’m using a vortex red dot on an ultimak.
