I admit read this off of Glocktalk boards.
Take one or two of your AKs and pull the bolt back as far as it goes and while holding it there pull the trigger. And the bolt stays open!?! I tried it for my WASR and it didn't work, But tried it for my Romak 2 and it worked! Weird but the bolt stays back until you pull back on the bolt again and release. Of course take the mags and do it. Give it a try, or maybe I'm finding this out last? Just thought I would share Jake

Well it didn't work on any of my other AK47s so hell maybe it doesn't work at all..?

It works on some AKs.....but not adviasble. your gonna stick a body part in the action and the bolt will pop loose and...oops...there goes a finger or what ever. Thats the main reason guys dont do it.....Its not safe.

On the Romak I could force the bolt forward. I had to pull it back again to get it to release? |

works for my wasr-10, and I use it when at a range and they need all the weapons cleared. But like mentioned above it does close on its own with just a little bump so dont stick a finger in there

No. It's just normal interference between the FCG and the bolt. |

It's only held by friction and is no way a reliable method of holding the bolt open.

Yeah, it sort of happens on my Romak 3 consistantly... the hammer gets caught between the bolt and the bolt carrier. Then again, the PSL has an actual bolt hold open already...

It works with every single Kalashnikov I have seen (that should not be taken to mean ALL). However, one could easily just flick the charging handle when it is pulled back and it will FLY forward faster than you can react. Trust me and every other poster who says this. Keep your hands clear of that ejection port when using that as a method to keep the bolt open. I actually saw a police officer with a Factory 386 milled receiver Norinco MAK90 today who was using the afore mentioned method to keep the bolt open on a cold-range.

Sounds like some of you who desire having a bho need to buy a notched safety lever for this purpose or notch it out yourself. I mean its only a finger.

Just hose your action down with a little bit of break free and then see how easily the carrier stays back. My SAR1 use to stay back if I gently pulled the carrier back and gently released.
It still will stay in place, but if a fly were to fart, it will fly home quite easily. Previously, it would stay in place a little bit easier, but no more. Ever hear of M1 thumb? |

With the original Romanian FCG my Romak2 would do this all the time. To release you had to pull the bolt back to reseat the hammer, simply bumping the charging handle wouldn't do it.
When I switched to a G-2 USA FCG it would handg up just by riding the charging handle, no dropping the hammer required. Some light work with a file & stone smoothed it up so it didn't catch but it doesn't hold the bolt carrier back if you pull the trigger. The shape of the hammer is wrong. The Romak hammer is more squared off & the back is sharply angled, the G-2 is round other than the hammer face. |

What? The NRA class tells you to do that to check to see if the chamber is empty. Just visually checking isn't good enough. Are you calling them, and many others that teach the same method, idiots?z |

Where will you put you finger into, a 5,45mm or 5,56mm chamber? You've got to have Chinese fingers to do that. I've seen RO's clearing AUG's which had a round stuck in the chamber because they where looking to far in front of the weapon to see the chamber. Weapon knowledge, a good eye, taking the time to check the weapon and a surefire 6p light are enough to safely visibly check an empty weapon. But it will take longer than just a glance to make sure the shooter on your range has a cleared weapon. Bas |

You can clearly see whether or not a fresh round is loaded in the chamber, but I guess it would make sense to check and see if a round had become lodged inside the barrel. Although I have never heard of that happening to guys who take care and clean their AKs. And you would probably know because I doubt the piston and bolt would load the next round. |

My bolt hangs up on the FCG sometimes if I gently pull it back and let it hang up then gently lt go, if you bump it, SLAM!
But this new method, where you hold the trigger down, this is rock solid on my WASR.

In my SLR-101 I leave the bolt open on the range so that the gun cools quicker after shooting a lot of rounds. But I wouldn't recommend on putting your fingers anywhere where the bolt can slide by mistake and hit you (trust me, it happened to me cleaning an AK and it hurt like a biatch
 )And what you can do is put a magazine in then give the gun a lil whiggle foward and look all cool by not having to load the rifle. lol  Looks all SWAT... hahahh (mall ninja type)

It works sometimes on my SAR-1. I think it's related to the temperature of the rifle. If it hasn't been fired recently it seems to hold open reliably but after a range session it won't catch. hinking.gif |
