I bought my AKS in November 1987. It has a folding stock (folds under the rifle - I don't know if there are other types.) It was new-in-the-box, with four magazines, bayonet, sling, and stuff for cleaning, etc. It had a two-page Disassembly and Care AKS 7.63x39mm.

The faint legend stamped on the left side of the receiver just in front of the magazine well says,"AK47S 7.62 X 39MM", and underneath of it, "MADE IN CHINA". The S/N 8703### is stamped on the left side of the receiver, about 3/4" above the AK47S... stamp. The bolt has the last four numbers of the S/N 3### stamped on the left side.

On the right side only the letters "S" and "F" are stamped by the safety/dust cover. The wood is light in color and appears to have a semi-gloss oil-finish.

I have only shot it 10 times, and needless to say, it is in as-new condition. I have the original box (styrofoam core with holes formed or cutout for all the items), and everything else.

Can you tell me what I have?

You have a pre-ban Chinese AK.

Are there any other markings on the receiver?

Is the receiver milled or stamped?

Does it have the underfolding spike bayonette?

I've read of several of these pre-ban Chicoms that lack any Norinco or Polytech markings. This seems to be more common with underfolder's than other varieties.

Any factory markings, for example a triangle with a 66 inside?

(1) Receiver: Stamped
(2) Other markings: none on receiver, but on the left side of the barrel, near the muzzle, it has stamped what appear to be the letters "GLNI" and then "LA" and "GA" - but they are difficult to read and the "G" could ve an "O", or a "C", for example.
(3) Bayonet: Separate - like a knife.

Thanks guys!

Do the pictures and additional information (above) provide any more useful hints?

I had one of those that I bought in 88 for $325. I sold it in 99 for $850. See them at gunshows in like new condition for $1000-$1200.
