I'm sure this question has been brought up before but nothing came up when I did a search. I am looking to buy an AK to go along with my M4, but with all the countries out there making them and all the different models availible, which one should I choose. I really don't want to spend more than 500.00. So any opinions and info will be greatly appreciated. I don't want to order one as I am a hands on kinda guy, gotta see it before I purchase.

Romanian SAR (not sure how available these still are?)
Or WASR--some problems have been reported with hack jobs around the mag well, but plenty in good shape. I've heard that Ohio Rapid Fire has done nice things with WASR's. Heck, for that matter, ORF is making milled AK-74 receivers right now: you could get that rifle under your target price (or real close). |

The round itself. The 47 shoots a 7.62x39 . The 74 shoots a 5.45x39 . Other than that not really to much. WarDawg |

The 7.62x39 is usually a bit cheaper.

Last weekend I got 500 rnds of 5.45 for $54 at Bill Goodmans. 7.62 x 39 is a bit less than that but I thought that was a good deal.

7-8 cents a rnd for 7.62x39, 10-11 cents a rnd for 5.45 and Russian 5.56
30cal is certainly more fun for knocking things around on the range under 150yds |

SAR 1 is the way to go. You can always send it to Chris at AK-USA for a full makeover if you so desire. I did and am very happy with it. www.ak-103.com

SAR rifles are pretty inexpensive here in the San Antonio area. I would recommend you pick up one of those, or a Wasr-10.
