Ok, it seems to me that determining wether a Ak is pre or post is pretty shady to me, its not like an ar or what not that you could find a # list really fast. So what is a easy way for a new guy to determine if the Ak was imported before the ban took afect? I've never seen a serial # list for anything remotly like that so how do all you guys know if the rifle is a preban or not other then takeing the guy your buying it off of word?

correct me if i am wrong, but there are definately some pre-ban Mak-90. they were imported from 1990- sept.1994. they were imported without evil features, but could have been converted back to evil feature configuration until sept 1994. i believe the 1989 import ban has the parts count rule, so as long as it was followed they would be pre-ban mak-90. of course you would need documentation of being done before sept 1994

All MAK-90 rifles are post ban.

All MAK-90 and NHM-90/NHM-91 rifles are post-89 ban.

Pre-94 ban doesn't really count.

It would have had to had 6 US parts in it, and in "assault weapon configuration", PRIOR to September 14th 1994, to be considered exempt from the '94 AWB.

Good luck documenting something like that...

Wow, thats pretty informative. Bayo lug = pre ban, makes sence but are there any kits sold with the lugs still on the barrel?

Now it another one of my post there was a mention of a war bring back, what are the rules on those? Is it still posable for military personel to still bring back Aks and the like or would that have been cut off too by th 89' ban?

Military bring back AK's would be selective fire, and that was banned from importation in 1968.

There are VERY few LEGAL military bring back AK's, and most of them are Chinese and Russian, but I do know of one Romanian underfolder that was brought back from Vietnam, but it was registered as a Russian rifle.
