EE, gunbroker, last Dixie fun show.  All indicators that AKs are becoming more affordable to those like us who've saved. .

Glad to see people are coming back to reality.

I'm venturing that many of the 20,000 laid off at Caterpillar own surplus AKs which will be recirculated back to the market, keeping downward pressure on prices.

I would suggest the folllowing:

If you already have ANY AK, WASR/Saiga/AMD/Yugo/whatever, don't buy another one.
If you don't have an AK, get the cheapest one that would do the job for you.

This way you're covered, but the likelihood is that the 35,000 jobs lost today between Caterpillar, Sprint Nextel, and Home Depot EXPO are going to be piled on top of many more job losses coming down the pike.  It takes a couple or a few months for these people to fall behind on their mortgage, utility bills, car/suv payments, etc.  People being stubborn and all, they will likely list a lofty price similar to lofty prices asked for real estate in much of the country.  Push comes to shove, the prices will either gradually fall or come crashing down.

Just sit back, relax, and watch the show.  Just get a lot of 7.62/5.56/5.45/etc since ammo is a consumed item.  Wait on the toys.  My "WASR" index has been pricing since the election and avg prices seem to have dipped from about 750 to about 550 recently.  Recessions take time to develop.

Choobie ––- I totally agree with you , prices are still in"outer space" but looks like they are Earthbound –––– about two weeks ago , I bought a NIB AMD-65 for $550 shipped to my FFL guy. That was the cheapest AK on Gunbroker. Now lets HOPE that OBama lets things alone for awhile and we should see AK prices drop a bit more ––- HOWEVER - if he gets stupid with a new ban law ––- prices will again be in the "sky is the limit" range.

I was kidding, by the way.  But I'm sure someone out there might think paying over 400 for a Yugo SKS with Tapco crap all over it isn't too bad.

Yeah, well once people realize that banning guns is NOT anywhere close to being a top priority for this administration prices and panic buying will greatly reduce. Hell, things may become alot cheaper because the market will probably be flooded. Sort of like a mini-housing market bubble burst, only for firearms.

I'm of the opinion the ban won't be pushed until obama is on his way out.

I'm also noticing the prices coming down slightly. I passed up a 469.00 WASR and a 599.99 AMD-65 at the local show here the other week. Granted, prices won't be like they were a year or two ago, but I can't see paying 500.00 for a Romy, especially a tapcofucked Romy.

I bought three WASRs 4 years ago for 275.00 each all with cleaning kit, two mags and 400rds of wolf. I also picked up three Romy kits for 99.00 a piece. We will never seen those prices again, but it's good to think about the old days.

$300 kit+ $60 receiver and 40$ in parts

I'm still building them for around $400 or less

I saw a Norinco AK47S in good condition original wood no bayonet for $950 at the Topeka gunshow this weekend. If I would have had the money that baby would be mine.

The point is that most people DON'T have the money.  Or, if they do, they're hoarding it just incase they get laid off from their formerly secure job.

Depressions cause people to do strange things, like not buy stuff on credit like they used to.  Savings rate is going up in America.  Prices for guns will come down.  They already have, just like house values.

But, y'all just keep on believing that guns only go up in value.  I'll just play the vulture circling overhead.

about last year i got a wasr-10 for $390 OTD and a week later i bought a SAR-1 for $320 OTD!

i want another ak but i dont want to pay 500 for a wasr at my local shop or 550 for a AMD.this shop always had them for this price after the panic buying they wasnt like most shops going 700+, but 500 is still gouging.  Im waiting to just like most of you. i have enough ak's to make me happy though just need some more ammo.  hopefully ammo prices come down some to since the metal prices dropped so i think all the high prices are from panic buying

what are your predictions on ammo? i would think the same because if they sale the rifle why not sell the ammo to. then there will be a flood of ammo

I think ammo will dip slightly, but not like the prices of old. Especially if we have import issues. My problem is, I don't have a beater AK now. That's what I'm looking for, but even with today's prices, 500 or up is crazy for a romy. Don't even start on Yugo prices!

All I know is - if 7.62x39 ever drops back down to under $100 per case, I will sell my house, and buy nothing but ammo. Then I can build myself an ammo fort/house

Hey, I can dream.

You may be on to something.. Good dream!!! I think that your joke will turn into an businessman's dream in the future if Hussein Obama gets his way with a possible tax hike on all ammo..
