I wondered how long it'd take for somebody to bring this crap up. Gabe's a good instructor, despite what you might read here. I've already taken one of his classes and all who attended came away pleased and impressed.

Sonny puzikas (guest inst.) is that guy that has that video out on the AK. Former spetznaz, from the demo video, it looked like he knew his shit...

Despite anyones thoughts about gabe suarez, which i wont comment on because i don't know the guy, paul gomez, listed as one of the instructors has been running an "urban AK" class which is supposedly the heat. You couldn't spread enough shit about gabe to keep me from taking this class if it popped up closeby. I'd whiz a couple rounds by gabes head on his request for the opportunity to train with gomez anyday.

Man, I'd LOVE to attend that class. Sounds like a winner! How far away is Prescott from Phoenix? I know people I (my wife) could stay with in Phoenix...

Part of being a good instructor is being a good showman. The fact that Gabe has continued to survive in a glutted market of firearms instructors speaks volumes for his abilities, even if they are sometimes over the top.

Seeing as how this course will be taught by an "operator" it can be nothing but spectacular.

The class is already full.

I guess there are too many people who didn't read here first. They don't know that Suarez is a fraud and the class is a joke!

That is absolute fucking pure bullshit.

An instructor doesn't and shouldn't need to show off.

I didn't realize you were so well-versed in what it takes to be a good instructor. Please excuse me, as I had no idea you were so wordly. Then again, I'm talking about firearms and use of force instructors and not pointy-headed college professors. I'm sure you know all about those.

Buddy, I've spent many hours following the advice of people that spent the better part of their lives shooting people for a living. Gabe Suarez has spent more time defrauding the government than shooting people.

Your pathetic attempt at a dig shows how out of touch you are. I've spent plenty of time in classes with many different instructors, and none of them have ever felt the need to show off (except one, whose credentials have been called into question). Get it? Guys who have been there have no need to show off!

If you want to show how dedicated you are to Gabe, he has his own forum for such things.

Ready? Go.

Jack,

Have you ever met Gabe? I have taken a class from him and have talked and corresponded with him on several occasions both before and after his termination from his department in California. He's said before, and I believe him, that he's got no agenda other than trying to teach how to survive a gunfight. Do I regurgitate everything he's ever told me? Of course not. Do I think he's a solid instructor with good teaching ability? You bet I do. Yes, I am well-aware that he got canned and has a record because of it. But some of the best instructors have a checkered past. Don't knock the training or the trainer because you can learn good techniques anywhere. I learned a pretty good move from a drunk in a bar fight.

My only interest in starting this thread was to let some of the guys here on the AK board know there was an opportunity to get some training that's based on the AK rather than take another AR class and try to form it around the AK. If that upsets you, you need to play some more X-Box.

As usual, those who love to crap in threads have ruined another post.

And for the record; I have plenty of hours on the range, both as a student and instructor. I started shooting when I was 9 years old. I have been wearing a uniform and/or carrying a firearm since I was 19. I'm 37 now. I'm currently assigned to the training office for a large Federal agency. I teach firearms as part of that duty. I hope I have some idea of what it takes to be a good instructor.

Melvin, the key point in this class should be that Saulius "Sonny" Puzikas will be teaching. By all accounts he is a SME, and were I in the market for AK training I would look to him.

I have seen enough of Gabe online to know that I would rather learn from other instructors. That does not invalidate all of his training principles, though. It does put the burden on him, and when he teaches antiterror classes which emphasize the use of pens as weapons, and pulls his two way range stuff, I tend to get a little turned off.

what turns me off is that it is in october. i can't wait that long and i don't want the year to end so fast. it takes time to plan a vacation and get your travel arrangements but tell us in August you will have a course in October, not in March.

He probably didn't know it'd fill up so quickly. With this kind of interest, I'm sure another class is forthcoming.

I hope so, I would have signed up if it was sooner. Maybe the Urban AK instructor will come down here earlier and do a class.

Wrong on both counts.

Save yourself the trip and just buy the video of Saulius "Sonny" Puzikas on "Beyond the Firearm AK47/74". I bought the video from Red Soldier as someone else mentioned and it is worth the $30 you pay for it, some of it is inpractical but just like any good form you take what works for you and discard what does not. Very adaptable to any style weapon system, the beginning is a bit a dumbed down, but basically the video is set up to take an idiot from; what's an AK? to I am now a ninja with my AK!

Cool stuff all around and well worth the money. I plan on buying more of the Systema videos because they have a very adaptable fighting system, much like JKD but with more real world weapons training.
