So I am looking to spend no more than 400-500 bucks on an AK. I have a AR15 and am looking for something a little different this time.

I want the classic style wood finish, not the black or folding stock or anything like that. I just want as solid an ak I can get for that amount. Any Suggestions? What do you think about a WASR-10? Thanks! -Lance

WASR 10 - Functional but Not so High Quality in many ways.

YUGO M-70 VERY NICE!!  Functional and Well Built!  Make you proud to pass it around.

You should be able to find a YUG0 M-70 (teak wood furniture classic style AK) for under $500

get a no ban (sar-1?) romanian

You can get the whole kit (bayonet, mags, cleaning kit, etc) for under $400, new in box

I like the wood on the ban era SAR1, much nicer, but they lack the bayo lug and threaded barrel (no big deal IMHO)

Quoted:
To be honest if I had $500 for an AK, I would save up another $150 or $200 and get a Vector or Lancaster from Atlantic.  There is a very good chance you will get a perfectly functional WASR, but your odds are infinitely better if you get a reputable AK from Atlantic.  They have good builder's rifles and Blaine and company are great to deal with.

+1.....buyer's remorse sux man, get a Lancaster, or better yet, a Vector.

I apologize for posting the question without reading into all the other threads posted. I've sort of come down to the the conclusion that the Vector AK47 Classic is probably my best bet and the WASR-10 is sort of a toss-up on quality. Thanks for the responses!

I'd look for a MAC90- if you can find one-

Chicom stuff is pretty nice compared to most other things you will
find in 4-500 dollar price range.

just my .02
