Is there any type of product that I can use to finish my AK without having it sandblasted and sent off to be done by a facility like ORF or someone like them.

I'm not looking for perfection just want to kinda of make a little project for myself. Something I can say I did.

I have seen a few friends use DuraKote (spelling??) on thier new Bolt guns. The finish looked great. And better yet they just bought the kit did it thier selves. I'm looking to try and refinish a WASR and then if is comes out good. Do a black matte finish on my Vector underfolder.

Check out Brownells under "Metal finishing". I've heard good things about the Dura Coat and Moly Coat.

even if you use duracoat you should at least lightly sand the gun with fine steel wool to help the paint adhere.

I've heard of people with AMD builds getting good results with automotive primer/spraypaint.

I was thinking the same thing. Use some steel wool on the surface of parts then duracote it.

Thanks for the advice guys.

I use Norrell's Molyresin. Spray it on with an airbrush and bake for one hour at 300 F

+1 I really like MolyResin as well. It holds up to any solvent and is really hard to scratch.
