What is the most durable and nice looking finish out there? Gun kote, Alumahyde, Bar b q paint, Spray paint, etc the choices are endless.

I've had good experiences with MolyResin. It'll hold up to any solvent you put on it without any finish coming off at all. I've tried duplicolor 1200 degree engine paint and while it looked absolutely great, small amounts would rub off even with hoppes#9 and yes, I did bake the duplicolor per instructions on the can.

Here's one of my Rommies in MolyResin semi-gloss black...

Looks good. I still haven't been able to get the pictures to come up for the stock I did.

Did you use an airbrush? I was tossing around this versus Alumahyde II.

Yes, you need to use an airbrush. I have a badger 350 and a cheapo Harbor Freight airbrush that are only $5 when on sale. I've found that the HF airbrush works just fine for spraying MolyResin on guns.

Can anyone point me to a source for KG teflon moly 1600s?

I've used to use the Duplicolor 1200 deg header paint. Tried Gunkote with a cheap airbrush and I will tell you this is the way to go. A much nicer and more durable finish. I think its also easier to apply with the airbrush than a spray can. ( This is the first time I've used an airbrush, its easy) Less runs and easier to do tight areas.

What about Alumahyde II?

I've heard guys saying good things about it and was just wondering...

I've heard good things about Alumahyde II. I think the downside is that you have to wait over a week for the finish to cure. That kinda sucks.

Yes - right from KG Coatings, and you can order on line...

1600F and 1600S are at the bottom of the scroll list. "F" is really matte, "S" is really gloss (think original Hungarian SA85 gloss).

I used Dupli-color 1200 from wal-mart for $4.95 per can. I've refinished 6 polish kits already with that can. No complaints here, some say it's not that resistant to solvents/bore cleaners etc. Mine is fine, I tested a receiver I finished before i started the build and it was fine.

Pre-heat your parts to 200 - 300 degress then paint, bake for 1 hour at 300 degrees, paint again, bake again for 1 1/2 at 300 again. Done. Very nice finish. I'll post some pics.
