Newbie builder here.

Would a AMD-65 folding stock trunnion work with a Romy kit?

And is something like that required to install a U.S.-made Galil-style side folder?

If you use the AMD 65 trunnion, you will need to use the WHOLE folding stock assembly as it is specific to the AMD 65. If you use a Romy rear trunnion, you can use the Tapco folding stock or an East German or Romak side folder if you can obtain one.
The AMD 65 trunion and stock assembly will work with any 1mm receiver. You just have to cut some on the side for the stock to fold. Yes, you can use it with a Romanian kit.
The Tapco stock is plastic and not very substantial.

Just put my AMD 65 together this weekend. Danc is absolutely correct. The AMD-65 folder will not slip into the Romy trunnion in place of the fixed stock. You have to use the AMD-65 folder and its trunnion in place of the Romy trunnion.

OK, so assuming I left the stock trunnion in place, will I have to cut the rear of the receiver to use a Tapco-style folder?

If you use the rear stock block used for the original wooden stock, you can use the Tapco folder and NOT cut the receiver.
