Archived [ARCHIVED THREAD] - Drilling the gas hole in the barrel

First time moving the gas block and I discover the hole in the barrel is on a slant so it looks like they attach the gas block, then drill the hole so they're guaranteed to line up.  If I move the gas block and drill a new hole, does it have to be on the slant like that or can I just drill the hole straight into the barrel?  What size drill bit?  What's the best/easiest way to do it?  Any pointers and wisdom from experience would be appreciated.

Sounds like a 45 degree gas block you have. The easiest way to do it is to, get the gas block where you want it. Drill and pin in place. Useing a 3 mm. Cobalt drill, use the gas block as a drill guide and drill the gas port in the barrel. Go slowly. The slower you go, the less of a burr you will have in the bore of the barrel. You will feel the drill break through the barrel into the bore. Take the drill out and you are done. Hope this helps,
