I put ventilated handguards on my M1A just because the look cool. Ventilated guards look cool. In terms of performance, don't get your hopes up. But if you like the look, and it looks GREAT on the M1A, then go for it.

Have one on my SA-93, looks badass with the US KVAR synthetic furniture.

Tried one. It cools quickly after shooting, but the grip is all metal a does not insulate well during shooting.

I don't know anything about your speciffic gun, or wether you would run into troubles - but on a WASR it took some filing on the sides (right where you would put a wrench to change the handguard out) to get it to fit. It seemed to be just a tad wide there and maybe a tad long, although I didn't cut any length from it.

Just food for thought. Anybody know why it wouldn't fit? I figure it is because it was meant for a different member of the AK family, but I dunno.

Mine keeps rifle very cool. Lower handguard is cooler as well due to rapid heat dissipation. I'm quite impressed with function in my AK's but don't know how well it'll fit in a '74. Since I changed out my MAK-90 to use pistol grip, etc I cannot use mine(chinese) but am considering buying the one listed here as it is US made. If you have a '47 clone just see how well the gastubes switch.

Edited to add: Went to site and I think this one is chicom manufacture. I know I saw a US manufacture one recently but can't remember where. Maybe someone else can help. I'd like a US made one myself.
