I'm going in to buy an AK on Monday.  It's $150 at a pawn shop for a WASR10.  No idea if it's high cap or low cap but I'll figure it out then.  The only thing is it has the joined pistol grip/buttstock.  I've seen a lot of pictures of this setup but I enjoy the seperate grip/buttstock assembly.  Where can I pick up a decent wood stock and pistol grip?  Just as well, what should I expect to pay for it?  There's a NIB WASR10 for $350 at the gun store accross the street in the style I want.  But I assume for $200 cheaper, the new grip and stock should be the cheaper route in the final price.

If you change the butt/pistolgrip combo you will have to make the entire rifle compliant.  That will mean that you can not have more than 10 imported parts in the rifle.  As far as AK furniture goes, check the EE, there is usually somebody selling AK furniture there.

The 16 countable parts in a AK with a muzzle device.  No more than 10 of these parts may be imported.

(1) Receiver
(2) Barrel
(3) Trunnion
(4) Muzzle attachments
(5) Bolt
(6) Bolt carrier
(7) Gas piston
(8) Trigger
(9) Hammer
(10) Disconnecter
(11) Buttstock
(12) Pistol grip
(13) Forearm handguards
(14) Magazine body
(15) Follower
(16) Floorplate

If the rifle doesn't have a muzzle device then there are only 15 parts.

How do I find what parts are imported?  Do I have to disassemble the rifle?  Maybe I should just buck up and buy both guns.  I mean, they are just student loans.

The AR15.com motto is "get both" after all!

If the rifle is in the one piece pistol grip and buttstock configuration it probably does not have US parts.

So it may have 15 imported parts on it now and to just change the stock I would have to add 5 US parts?  Or if I replace the stock just make sure to replace with a US made one?  I'm a little confused.  As well, does anyone sell US made pistol grips and stocks?
