Standard Chinese Norinco that was brought in before the import ban of '89.
I remember selling them for about $350.00 back in "the day". They are great little rifles, but the .223 AK's never had a consistent magazine between different countries or even brands. The Norinco 5.56mm mags are different than the Polytech ones. One of these rifles in excellent condition would probably bring around $700 or so around here (Central VA), maybe more. I dunno who CSI was, but many companies imported the Chinese rifles. You might try posting some Q's down in the Chinese subforum. |

Can you explain this? I have some mags that came with the rifle (along with bayo, cleaning kit, sling, box, ect.) and also some "other mags I bought from a company advertising in Shotgun News and I've never had a problem with them. |

I'm not the resident Chicom guy around here, I think RS39 or Jeep might be better at it, but from what I understand, the 5.56mm mags from Norinco won't fit/work well in the Polytechs and vice-versa, although I could be talking out my ass on this one.

Templar is correct, ....but I for the life of me can't remember which mags will work in which! Bottom line is I avoid the 5.56 Chinese guns, becasue they have mag issues, and some had FCG issues. However the Red Star ARms FCG fixes that.

I could (and probably am) be wrong, but iirc the issue was with PolyTechs, the Norincos were ok. I do remember the Poly's had the FCG issue, and think they were the ones picky with mags as well.

The hammer geometry was off, and they had a problem with the firing pin as well.(pre spring loaded). Again...this is digging back in my memory. |

The PolyTech .223's had bolt issues, too. I bought PolyTech Legend National Match serial number 4 from a guy in Alabama who had bought Keng's stock of remaining rifles out in the 90's. He had several .223's that were returned to Kengs that had bolt issues. He rebarreled and rebolted them to 7.62 x 39. I had a .223 RPK PolyTech (VERY RARE) that I picked up at East Park Sporting Hardware in Memphis when they were around - PolyTech mags were the only thing that would work in it (Valmets would fit, but not function properly, at least in mine).
