Wasn't sure how to word the subject, so this is what it ended up being. What I am trying to find out, in comparing the AK to the AR on two aspects:

1 - Is there an adapter that allows the use of the AR-15 buttstock on the AK-47? I prefer an adjustable length tele-stock over a folding stock and would love to be able to use an old AR-15 stock on my AK

2 - The AR is available in all sorts of calibers, as the upper/lower set up allows quite easily for this. The AK appears to be more limited in caliber choices. I have come across .223, 7.62x39, 5.45x39, 338x39 and .458 SOCOM (one). Are there any other calibers out there? Just curious.

Looking for something kinky eh

What about something like the Yugoslavian M77 in 308 or VEPR or Saiga in 308.

Maybe a Galil folder on a Saiga receiver when the ban goes away.

That looks like a AK who mated with a Bushmaster......(only reason it looks more an AK than an AR is the stronger genepool )

custom builds have included 9mm, 45acp and 7.62 x 25. i'm sure that there re many customs of which i'm unaware.

Lets not forget about the russians producing 9x39s ... that I am trying to get ahold of some ammo for. :)

Superchicken - Perfect, gets me where I need to be.

Campy - Roger that, already confirmed DOB of the rifle to meet ban requirements ;o)

Hmm, custom builds in pistol calibers. Interesting, never came across any of those.

Got this strange itch to try and build a really accurate AK with a longer barrel in 6 PPC. Don't ask why, but I think it would be fun. And then add an AR stock. Hey, I got a few spare parts (AR stocks, barrel blanks, etc) and no more AR receivers ... so why not?

Also, there is the Bison in 9x18, 9x19, .380 and 7.62x25. Its different then the AK but close. It uses more of a blowback type of operation.

Also, the 9x39 guns that Tula makes look like AKs, but supposedly they are a little different in operation. They make a normal SMG version, a integral suppressed assualt rifle, and a sniper rifle. Basically the casings are just 7.62x39 necked up to take a 9mm bullet.

I am familiar with the Bison and the Grom, however, I was leaning more to trying to do what many folks said couldn't or shouldn't be done:

Take a match grade barrel, the Red Star adjustable trigger, and the nicest receiver I can get my hands on, and try to make a 20" one-hole shooting AK in one of the premier calibers like 6 PPC.

The Bison and Grom, as you mentioned, use slightly different platforms ... such as the VSK-94. Don't see too many of those around here ...
