There have been many comments about buying kits before the "Ban" kicks in.  Nothing short of a feeding frenzy.  Also, much has been written on various tools used in building and the $ merrits of purchasing these.  My question is:  If you were to buy a stock of kits and build on manufactured receivers such as Global or Ewbanks, would it be legal to sell the end product in a private sale such as the EE?

Sell more than a couple, and if the ATF notices, you'll have problems.  It would be considered manufacturing without a license and the fact that the exise tax was not paid.

thats dangerous territory my friend. you know where greed gets you.........

if you want to go that route, become a dealer. period. its fairly obvious what your
intentions are and ATF is not stupid.

What if you built up kits that people bought and sent to you to build up?  Would that cause problems for you?

Not planning to start a business.  Just wanted to know what is possible.  I started with a purchased AK, then ordered a kit.  Now I have the itch.  I was thinking about buying a couple more kits and building them up.  I just wondered if it was possible to legally sell one to a friend.

When you buy a receiver like G/T, does it come with any type of identifiying number for tracking purposes?

Thanks,

Its a fine line I think.  I got 10 of the kits,  mainly because hell  $89 a pop,  and the rec's are 60,  plus some other parts can run into a newish AK for less than $200.  Would I build to sell?  hmm  NO,  My luck is they would notice.   Out of the 10 I have I plan on building at least 2 soon.   the 3rd after the first of the year.  I want a Screw build and a Rivet build and started pulling the old rivets out of 2 of the kits today.  the other 8 were inspected after recieving,  and put back in their bags tucked into the closet.

I dont know about GT,  but OOW has a Ser# right beside the trigger cut-out.

Now on the other hand,   If you pay the Excise Tax on the Rec's,  would it be legal to build one and Sell?   Someone out there has the answer to this one.

you can sell as many registered receivers as you like and by building up a kit on a registered receiver you are not manufacturing....manufacturing is making a serialed receiver for intent to sell

That being said there are some caveats, it has to be a reasonable reason to sell without an FFL, reduction of the number of firearms, a limited number of sales in a reasonable period etc and can't be to supplement income.  It just has to be you want to sell one of your rifles after a 'reasonable' period of time...call it a month.   Mutiple sales in a short period of time will get you on the radar screen though

im kinda in the same boat,.. but i use only global recivers(serial # front right side),..that i have to fill out the yellow paper  to get,..
theres two kits that i have,.. which once built and ive had my fun playing with them the will goto my brother and father.
it shouldent be a problem because i can give/sell a long gun to a friend, relative, aquantance as long as its legal to own where they live, and theres no reasons for them not to own a firearm

as far as building a AK/ any rifle for some one else,. i think you need to have the licence to manufacture,..that said,. i dont think theres any law keeping you from HELPING someone build a firearm,...

but either way good luck on your build
