'K........I was just looking through the tacked pic thread and thought this would be kinda cool.

I'd like to see what you guys think are some of the nicest AK's owned by our members here on the Darkside.

They don't have to be yours, but please let people know who's they are.

I'll step up first and post a pic from Mr. Krink......who decided to do a Sadaam Special super-pimp.

I don't know the particulars of the rifle, but it's definitely out there!

It's a Romanian underfolder convert with Laukert Polish furniture, and Gold Plating (guncote)

NO KIDDING? what folder is that? I thought for sure that was a Polish PMKMS.  That is great for a Romy and some underfolder.

Oh and without a doubt mike_f's Type III was my thought and vote to begin with!!!

I nominate KevinM4's AK-101 conversion of his .223 Saiga. For one, he did it himself. I've always been envious.

So many gorgious AKs MikeF's AK-47 is probably the finest clone I have ever seen done. I had to go with KevinM4's mainly because I like newer AK styles but also because he did the work himself which I know was not easy.

Edited for crappy spelling

I give it to K1196a. Mike_f is a close second.

But damn look at the trouble K1196a has went to to make that collection what it is.

The one thing I noticed in a buch of these photos is that most of these rifles don't have the trademark scratch from the selector lever. How do you prevent that.

This rifle is gorgeous...the only thing I do not like is the way the selector stops look but I still think it is one of the best out there!

With that said, here is my Arsenal Classic Underfolder with factory Russian wood, one of only 10 built by Arsenal, Thanks Templar

Thanks for considering me in this fantastic line up. Of course I must vote new school. I just love the 100 series stuff.
Here's another image although the quality is poor. (bad camera day) Of two of the brothers 101 and 103.

Like Kevin said, it's pretty cool to be considered having one of the nicest looking darkside weapons....

Here's the other two pics, closeup of the soviet HG's and a shot from another angle, both are in the pic thread also.

Still need some russkie bakelites though, haven't gotten around to order them yet.

Here's my (1952) type 2 Russian underfolder.  I built on a stamped reciever with some (1970)Russian trunions I found at Knob Creek. It's not purty by any means but it has that "used" look that I prefer.

I think the old used look fits the AK personality the best.  Is that barrel length shorter than standard?

That's the standard 16" barrel lenth. It may look shorted becouse it is a heavier barrel. A Polish underfolder weighs 7pounds. This thing weighs 8 pounds. Everything on it is heavier than the newer AKs.
