I have an itch to thread a couple of my post ban rifles for a removable break.  I've never done it, but the instructions I've read seem to be pretty straight forward...

I have 2 rifles I'd like to do.  A Hungarian SA85-M with a OS barrel dia of .552 and the Egyptian Maadi S/A with an O/S dia of .503.  Can I purchase the same die (1/2-28) to do both barrels?  I know the .552 SA85-M should be 14x1L, but I'd like to only purchase 1 die for both rifles...  Will the 1/2-28 work on both rifles, without any problems, or is there too much material on the SA85-M?

Thanks!

Your .503 dia. will work, but the .552 dia. will need to be cut down to tap to 1/2-28.

Well I finally threaded my barrels.  It went smooth and pain free!

Here are a few pics...
