I found an SKS that is marked "SKS-NR 7.62x39mm Made in Chna By Norinco"

It is marked as being imported by "S.S.I. ONT. CA."

It has a thumbhole stock and takes AK mags. Any help would be appreciated.

It sounds like a version of the SKS - D model, but I'm not sure about the " NR " thing. Maybe some way of getting around the details of a Cali thing at the time of import.

I have no idea what the NR stands for but I picked one up marked just like that for $155 last winter. I havent fired it yet but it seems to hand feed very well. It is not as well made as the older sks's it has a pinned barrel and a cast rear sight base. But all in all for what I paid I think I got a good deal. I wouldnt pay over $225 for one unless your a die-hard collecter.

I had figgured that it was a d or M variant by the AK mags, and I was trying to find out about what year it was produced and who imported it.'

I have never heard of SSI and It looks like it says Ontario, Canada,

and the serial# is 94 xxxxx (I dont remember the rest)

Just trying to find out more.

I looked at mine and the importer is CSI Ont, Ca. I really dont think these were imported to Canada. The first letters of the serial # are also 94 I assume that is the import date.

Hrm, I was under the impression that the rifles were banned from import in '93.

This is strange.

And I have never heard of either importer. Now I am real confused.

Thanks for the Info tho, it is good to know that I am not the only one.
