It is my understanding that you need a double locked case to travel with firearms on airlines.  I have one for pistols but it is too small (obviously) for my AK.  Can anyone recommend anything?  My AK is not a folder, it's a VEPR II with the full length barrel.

I am a LEO and have flown with my service pistol.  I had to show them the pistol at the check in point.  It had to be locked in the case.  The ammo had to be locked in a seperate container.  You should call the airline and find out what their regulations are first.  The captain is the ultimate authority on any flight.  He can override any decision of the airline when it comes to the safety of the plane.

Cool, I'll give it a try.  Once I find out what is acceptable, I plan to take the longest rifle I have into Cabela's and see what it fits.  If it matters, I almost always fly Southwest.
