Lube - I hear everything from "dat AK47 dont need nun a dat der loob", "I spray it down with Rem oil" and "I put some grease on the rails".

Which is the most widely used....for recent cleanings I have been using Tetra oil on the rails and some Rem oil on the outside.

Slings - I really would like to use a tactical sling but Im left handed - does this affect the use of the sling any.  I know absolutley nothing about tac slings - I would like to be able to let go of the weapon and have fall to my side....

Any advice of which sling to order?

For lube,I just use G-96 spray lube.I lightly spray the FCG,bolt and the rails.Try not to over lube,it'll just blow back in your face when you get it hot.

Breakfree CLP on the bolt and carrier rails and a quick wipedown of it on all the other metal surfaces.

Sounds like what you want is a single-point sling - ACE makes a rear adaptor that has a sling swivel which will work well with a single point sling. They also have one which requires you to cut the rear tang off.

Light on the lube, but it does need it. All machines do. I put a very little bit on the rails and the bolt carrier/head.

I use a little Militech on the rails and the bottom of the bolt.

Who cleans their AKs?

To be totally honest, the only lube I use on my AKs is the lube I put on them after I clean them.  Strictly anti-corrosion.

how many rounds is a light coating of CLP good for?  I must be on about 2000 without cleaning/lubing

Gunscrubber in the guts and gas tube, bore cleaner for the barrel, then any oil based lube will work, I use CLP.  8000rds no issues or rust.
