The lever you're talking about may be the folding stock locking latch.

No, this tab or lever sticks out on the side in the front of the receiver...........this is it.............it's inside the folding stock...at the front of the reciever, in front of the mag dimple, behind the handguard.......left side

The little latch you're talking about holds the stock in the "folded" position. There is a small cut out in the receiver and it's mounted on a pin with spring.
