I'm about 5'10" and I can use either. Right now I have the short stocks on both AKs. OTOH, I prefer the A1 stock on ARs also. BSW

I'm just about 6 feet tall and I like the length of the Tapco polymer stock which is, I believe, the same length as the shorter KVAR. Like Brian, I prefer the shorter A1 stocks to A2 stocks on AR15s.

I am 6'0" and I own both, but I prefer the shorter one. The longer one is more comfortable if you use a bladed shooting stance with your dominant shoulder further from the target than the other shoulder. However if you tend to square yourself up to the target then the shorter one may be more comfortable.
If you own an AK then the stock you already have on it is probably the shorter length. If that feels too short to you then the longer on is probably a good investment. |

Warsaw. I too like the old AR stocks before they added 5/8" to them. I'm 5'10".

I'm about your size and I prefer the standard length.
OTOH, I have friends no larger than me who much prefer the longer buttstock. It's a matter of personal preference and shooting style, IMO. |

6-2 Warsaw. I had one of the nato length, but ended up cutting it down close to warsaw.

I'm 5'6" and have a NATO length stock on mine. I would like to replace it with a Warsaw Pact length stock some time. However, It doesn't bother me that much.

When in doubt, go with the shorter stock. If you gotta use that rifle with thick clothing (or body armor), a shorter stock will serve you well.

I get the feeling they didn't measure properly when they came up with the longer NATO length stock. On an AR the pistol grip extends out over the buttstock. On an AK the pistol grip is mounted in front of the stock, making the length of pull longer than it should be. I am 6'4" and I am ditching my NATO length stock for the warsaw pattern. I also consider my AK's to be carbines so I prefer the compactness of a shorter stock.

My Romanian AKs have the Warsaw stocks and my Bulgarian AKs have the NATO stocks. I'm 5'8" and I prefer the Warsaw length.

The Warsaw Pact buttstock is where it's at. I'm not sure many people like the "NATO" length...mostly a marketing ploy they really did not need. Also, the "NATO" length makes the AK look odd...IMHO.

Wow everyone agrees with what I was going to post. The only advantage to the NATO length is the sight picture is a bit better. Stick with the short stock. TAPCO also offers both lengths.

I am 5'7" and have a receiver sight mounted on the dust cover of my AK, NATO length works better for me.

If you have other people use the rifle who are small, it will make a difference. |

im 6' and prefer the warsaw. I like short stocks on this style of weapons. If it was a target rifle id like a longer stock, but i stand almost square to my target so i prefer the short stock.

No longer have a AK, but every one I've shot has had a Soviet stock on it. Shooting a collapsed stock M4 with body armor for years, and heavy clothing in inclement weather, the short one is how I would go.

the shooter's height is irrelevant. The gun was designed with a short stock. Learn to shoot it. I can understand on a gun with a scope or rear peep sight that an extra inch on the stock might make for a more comfortable shooting platform (I hit my glasses on a FAL rear sight sometimes) but with a forward mounted rear sight - it is a moot point. I have a number of guns with 12" lengths of pull for kids and i have zero problems shooting them like any other gun. Too long can be a liability. Really short is a non-issue.

34" sleeves and Warsaw
You can always add a 1" pad for cheap later, and the $10 one from Tapco is pretty tuff and bolted on. Unless it's a prone match, A1 for ARs too. |

Warsaw. I hate trying to shoulder a weapon where the long ass buttstock keeps catching on clothing on the way up to my shoulder. I want a slick, non-rubbery buttpad, and a short stock.

First post in the ak section, Alright.
I personaly like the warsaw one better, and I also like the A1 stock on the M16 better then the A2. Im 5ft 8in so that might have a lot to do with it. |
