AK standard rear sight vs. Krebs Custom peep rear sight
Have two AKs, an Arsenal Inc. of NV SAM-7 and an Armory USA/Global Trades AMD-63. Both came with standard AK rear sights. At 25 yards, the sights are easy to use, at 50 yards it gets pretty blurry after about 5 minutes of use, and at 100 yards it is blur city from the get go. I can get decent accuracy even with the blur (2-6 MOA). I would called it a “managed blur”. The managed blur being I have to work harder and squint more than say an AR-15 sight to get the accuracy required for COM shots.
I put a Krebs custom fixed peep rear sight on the Arsenal to see if I could get rid of the managed blur. Ordered it online from their web site for $49.95. Received it a couple days later. No issues, no problems. Putting it on was tough but got in on after 5-10 minutes. It did come with good instructions. Is just as sturdy and rugged as the standard rear sight.
I have shot the Arsenal (rear peep sight) and AMD-63 (rear standard sight) together at both 50 and 100 yards.
At 50 yards with rear peep sight…
- did not experience any blur what so ever, even after 2.5 hours of shooting
- was able to keep tight groups longer than rear standard sight
- did not see any increase in initial accuracy
At 100 yards with rear peep sight…
- did not experience blur after 2 hours of shooting until the very end last 30 mins
- was able to keep tight groups longer than rear standard sight
- did see some increase in initial accuracy perhaps 2-3 MOA vs 2-4 MOA from standard rear sight.
Bottom line, very happy with the purchase, it helps light years with the “managed blur”. Plan on getting one for the AMD-63 for X-MAS.
