Hello all... I am obviously new here!

I am fascinated with the idea of building my own AK's from kits. I like to save money and I like to tinker with firearms, especially the SKS.

I am a hands on type of person, I learn best from doing.

My question is, I live in MO of course, on I-44 in between St. Louis and Rolla. I would like to find some on in this part of Missouri that would be willing to show a person how to get started with an AK build. My bisses hurdle if figuring out how to do the receiver

If this person happens to be a dealer, I will even buy all the parts throgh them so they can make a few bucks.

I know that new people are always seen woth "caution", but I really want to learn how to build my own AK's

I talked to Curtis from www.Ak-Builder.com and he mentioned interest in hosting a build party. He lives in the KC area. Im about 2hrs away but would be more than willing to make the trip. Curtis is a great guy and has a great product.

hi red rider i live in Springfdield. not that close but not that far eather. i've built several AKs for me and helped friends use my bending jig. give me a call and we'll set up a bending class. also have several vcr and dvd on building AKs. my number is 417-581-1381 and home most of the time,(knee replacements both) e-mail [email protected]. i think instead of a build party my idea is to have one persone a time come up when its a little cooler and we can concentrate on good instead of fast. i'm pretty well equipped and have all the tools and some vidio tapes on ak builds, i've had seven successful build and one problem child. one of the 1.6 MM recievers had the guides welded too high and its taken me a month to straighten it out, and of course its a good friend. this little fiasco has taught me a lot about the actual machanics of the weapon. please call guys i can fit you in almost any weekend if wife doesn't honey doo me to death. I'm interested and only about a couple hours away as well. I've got a set of rivet squeezers I can bring along with a couple of kits that need finishing.

I'm south of both Springfield and Rolla but would be interested in a build party. I have some kits that need finishing and could bring a small mig and possibly a 12 ton press.

I live in springfield and I would love to build an AK, I've been looking for a good reason to pick up a M92 Parts kit. However, I have ZERO experience building AKs, so I would need some help.

Lets set up a date and I'll order my parts kit and flat,

I have the ak-builder.com website and I'm in the Kansas City area. There are a couple of people in this area that want to get together and get a build party going. This will be a few weeks out though... right now I am working on getting some jigs finished up.

What would be nice is to have about three shop presses to have one dedicated to bending flats, one for pressing in/out barrels and one for riveting. Other than that I've got everything else here (or I can get it made up anyway).

I'm From the Topeka KS area and would like to join in one of the future build parties, but I've first got to return from Kosovo where I'm currently deployed to with the Army National Guard. I'm supposed to get back to the states very early spring time of 2006. As of right now I’m interested in building in 5.45x39 caliber either an under folder or better yet a Krinkov. If I go with the Krinkov a couple of questions.
1) Does it require a special or Krinkov specific receiver?
2) I know that I'll have to a) get a longer permanently attached compensator/flash suppressor to
Make it 16" min. barrel length. Or b) Make it a pistol What’s been the preference of most
Builders in this area?

I'm a military trained Armorer up to depo level, and I've built several hundreds of the AR-15/M-16 family rifles. Is the AK much harder? or easier in your experiences?

Aug 13 sounds interesting. I have two Romainians and two AMDs coming.

Well... most people don't know this, but my website is AK-Builder.com and I will have basically anything that is needed to build these.

The best way would be to rivet all of them together. With the right tools it's fairly simple to do that.

I will be able to supply the rivets, hardened center supports, the good receiver flats with no trunion holes and possibly other parts as well.

Hello Stickerman I knew you had that site and have been there before. about all i might need is a flat or 2 and maybe center support got lots of rivets and will get G2 before the build. Will your flats work for an underfolders?

I should be able to get a hell of a deal on the trigger groups for anybody that wants them. Same with any of the other US parts.

As far as underfolder flats go... I can have some modified before the build as long as I know how many will be needed.

There is a chance that I won't have a spotwelder here so if anybody could bring a 115v one from HF that would help.

Count me in, I also have a bag of rivets and a HF modified rivet tool. I could also bring a small mig, a drill press and maybe a 6 ton press. Does anyone have a yugo receiver blank? I was just about to order one to finish that kit but it won't get here in time.

Stickerman, we need details---place, time, food availability, etc. I don't suppose you have a range close so we can test the builds?

I've got a Miller 175 mig so we won't really need another welder. The spot welder for the rails is the best way to go anyway. The six ton press could come in handy though. I was thinking that one press per tool being used should work.

The Yugo underfolder trunion is thinner than a standard trunion and the holes are in a different spot. Plus there is an angle to the back of the receiver... I haven't seen what happens when putting the Yugo rear trunion in a .040" receiver. If we had .015" shims for each side then it wouldn't draw in on the rear.

I'm actually toying around with a way to bend up some Yugo blanks. Over the next week or so I'll try to get one made up to see what happens.

As far as the FCG's go you need to send me an e-mail or a phone call for the price. In the next few days I'll have them listed on my website though.

Underfolder flats are going to be $35 for the Polish models.

The time... well I'm not a morning person so maybe 10am to whenever....

I thought about cooking out on the grill, but that's time that I can't be helping out. Unless somebody else wants to do that part.. then all we would need is to have people bring something with like chips, burger or whatever.

The Lake City range is just north of where I'm at. I don't know of anybody locally that has some land we could just go shoot at. That would be more fun than going to the supervised range. Lake City

Any plans for parkerizing or coating the receivers? I can bring some Mang. Diox. and a pan if there's interest and means of heating. Wouldn't hurt to sand blast first either.

It's a bit more of a drive but the CMMG range is very cool. It's in fayette near, columbia.

I've got a blast cabinet and we could do some parkerizing. It's quite a load on a single stage compressor though....

Driving to CMMG would be too much driving time from here to do all of this in one day. The Lake City range is closer, but it probably wouldn't be as fun.

Do you need a air compressor for parkerizing? haven't done it before but I believe you should well if so. would a 135psi 6hp 25gal compressor help my other compressor is way to big to move but that ones a stand up with wheels. I could bring? if we need

You have to sandblast the metal before parkerizing for it to turn out the best. If we're just blasting receivers then it's not a big deal, but when you end up doing every little part then it puts a strain on the compressor.

Am in Springfield, MO, so this is interesting. Will be vacationing in OK on the 13th, so won't be able to make it to a get together on that day.

Anybody have jigs to remove/install gas blocks, front sight bases and such? I have some SLR-105's that need such work.

I have one of those Harbor Freight welders, Plinker7.62 trunion riveter, Plinker7.62 thru riveter, 20 ton press, one of those trigger guard rivet deals, and a nobeard build kit.

Also have complete set of tools to build M1 Garand, M14, AR-10, AR-15, and FAL rifles.

If you ever make it up this way any other time you might give me a call.

As far as something to press off the other pieces on the AK barrels if you need it made just give me the diameter that the holes will need to be in the block.

Now if I only had time to build all of those other rifles I would say to bring the tools on up. I am machining a Fal casting, but that's on hold for a while since I have a bunch of jigs to build.

They would have to be two piece, like a two piece bushing, held together with allen screw? Not sure how I am going to handle this.

I'm in Sullivan, I haven't built one yet, but I just ordered a Romy kit from Centerfire. I do have the AGI AK building course on CD. Maybe we could put our heads together and get a couple built :-)

It'll be a few weeks before I buy the rest of the parts, but after that I should be ready to go

Well, it looks about 100% that I'll be in on the party. Now the only question is how disassembled the pieces need to be. I spent about two hours in the garage today trying to drill/grind/punch rivets out of this darned thing. With no real progress.

I figure I can spend an entire day doing this and still not get it all apart. Is having ready to assemble parts a prerequisite for the festivites, or can disassembly be part of the game? Last thing I want to do is show up and hold up production.

Don't bother trying to get the rivets out if you don't have a drill press. Plus I've got a special tool for drilling out the trigger guard rivets.

Just bring a good fully charged cordless drill for those plus anybody that has a small drill press might as well bring that along too. That and bring punches and other small tools that you might need. That way everybody can be doing something at the same time.
