I was at the gun store and saw an 8mm (Looks like a sniper type rifle).  It looked remotely like it was on a large AK platform with a scope.



Anyway, the gun store guy was telling me that the Triangle 66 marking from Norinco was the "Best".  Further stating that the Triangle 66 factory is by far better than any other AK factory in China.  True? Or is he blowing smoke?

i thought that the triangle with a 66 inside was to indicate that it was made in in Russia and given to/sold to the Chinese( like the with the mags). But then again, what do i know...

It's kind of hard to understand what you're talking about  - do you mean magazines or actual rifles regarding the "Triangle 66" thing?

It sounds like what you saw was probably the Yugoslavian M76 rifle (but US built from a kit, probably):

The Factory 66 logo is stamped on many Chinese Type 56 style rifles.  "Best" is certainly going to be a matter of opinion.  Some folks believe the Chinese built a better AK than most others since they re-designed it.  Other folks may say Russian, Bulgarian, Hungarian, etc.  There's probably not a lot of difference between them other than aesthetics.

The logo was on the rifle.  The M76 looks like the one in the shop.  I have no idea of what he was talking about in regards to "The Best".  I thought maybe he was saying that the Triangle 66 had better quality control.





 

My personal view is that the Yugoslav/Serbian M77 B1/B2 in 308 NATO is the best AK variant ever made...However, I'm a AR guy and don't ponder to much in the AK family of weapons...One of my close family members purchased a Yugo M76 B in 308 NATO years back upon my reccommendation,now its worth some crazy amount like $3,000 or so. Just recently yet another family member purchased a nice Yugo M76 in 7.62X39 caliber...

The machine work,tolerances and milled recievers on the Yugoslav versions were/are excellent.

I did read somewhere that there is a 6.5 Grendel AK version comming out soon...now that would pretty Interesting,as I love the 6.5 caliber (I'm working on a 6.5mm AR-15 based on the 223/5.56 Nato cased wildcat).
