Cut the one on the bottom down a bit. With the brake pinned in place the barrel measures 16 1/4". What do you think?

Needs synthetic furniture... wood is too prissy.

Understand there's different tastes around. However, for mine I agree with HiramR. - synthetic furniture.

Mike,
what makes this one a "C" ?? Cut down barrel ??

Tom
Link Posted: 6/30/2003 8:35:54 AM EDT
Tom, I would say the C stands for Carbine, but in my mind the AK was always a Carbine. Maybe Compact? I see no visible difference other than the shortened barrel length. They might have had to open the gas hole a little to allow a little extra gas to compensate for the bullets shoret time in the barrel, but then again maybe not.

You got it, Hiram, carbine. The gas port was fine as it was. As for the wood, that is the first time a heard an AK called prissy! I just threw this togather from spare parts to see what it would look like.

5subslr5,

yeah, just the cut down barel.

Sorry dude, wook on AKs is prissy! I have an extra kit around here with a wood stock set as I will likely have it built up as a show piece, but a real field piece should have a synthetic stock set.

Mike,

They look great!!!! But I'm with the others, I prefer the black synthetic furniture....

Wood = "prissy"

Black Synthetic = "Sexy" ;)

I know the Russians have a couple of units out there using synthetic stocks on their AKs but the vast majority I always see toting in combat pix have wood (heh heh...I said wood). Is this perception wrong?

Yep, me too !!

I tried, really tried, to order any other color synthetic furniture for my SAR-2 but when the box came there it was - BLACK !!

(Got to admit that I DO like the teak wood on the Mitchell .308 imports. Never seen one in person but the pics sure look fine.)

I like the plum stock sets, I like the OD sets, but wood is for a wall hanger... I like my EBRs to be BLACK or at least some other colored space age polymer.

OK Mike, swap out the stock set and repost and watch how much WOOD you have than .

Alright FINE!!!! I'll get some plastic on it Got some more kits coming this week and I'll switch it out.

I like the 74C version. The wood looks good, black would be better, but please dont put that sissy plum on it.

Ok, some opposing imput is required here.

I LIKE WOOD!!!!!!!!!!!

hehehehe

Mike

And then Mike will try to sell it as new... Sir, is an AK supposed to be a smoothbore? Well son, whatya got yerself there is a super rare smoothbore that doesn't leave rifling marks on the bullet, so the enemy can't trace you!
Link Posted: 7/1/2003 4:00:44 PM EDT
LOL! The barrel is about shot out as it is. Like I said, a bunch of used extra parts thrown together. Got 400 rds through it so far. Gonna put the OOW receiver to the test!

No need to bash wood! It's impossible to make sweeping statements about it. I think that Russian "plywood" laminate AK-74 stocks are more attractive then synthetic, but synthetic is better looking then most normal wood. So there.

oh, yeah, and "C" and stand for "Commando" too.

cool this must be what my freind from arminia had back home. i remeber him saying i needed the ak-XXC model. that was his favorite. he also told me to buy a russian ak if i could

another classic ak storie, but he found his ak in the ocean after a battle. he cleaned it and used it for the remainder of the war. i have no idea what war it was but he's more than willing to show anybody the bullets wounds in his stomach. thats a crazy place to live over there.

My youngest got us started. Can't get him to keep his head in the right spot!

Smokin'!

A little more.

Blistered the varnish!

Never did get any flames. Put 8 mags through it. The last three bump fired as fast as I can. That is a total of 640 rds. with only one FTF. That happened during a bump fire. Hasn't been cleaned yet either.
