Damn, the initial velocity edge the 5.56 enjoys is quickly surpassed by the 5.45! 2023 fps at 500yds is pretty impressive. That's has got to sting a little.

I look at this round like I do my Swede Mauser round.

It is also long and pointy, has initial low velocity, but shines as it gains range.

This weekend I shot a groundhog at 325 yards while aiming only 4 inches high (with a 100 meter zero).

The .30-06, while more powerful took more hold over and when the range was finally found, did less damage. (not that there are different levels of dead, but you get the point)

Funny, I was thinking the same thing. I've used my M96 the last few years for deer hunting. It's hard to describe what a 120grn Ballistic Tip will do to the anatomy of a whitetail....let's just say it's not for the weak.

This is why I use .50bmg. If you can see your target you put the crosshairs on it and you get a big pile of dead. Did I mention how it turns groundhogs and squirrels into a fine red mist with a couple of tufts of hair?
