guys, i've been searching this one out like gangbusters the last couple days, but haven't found any decent info. i'm hoping some of you folks here will be able to get me squared-away.

question is: between similar format guns, what parts to the 5.45 AK's and the 5.56 AK's have in common?

reason i ask is, i'd like another 5.56mm "krink", but kits for them don't exist. so, would i be able to get a 74u parts kit and just swap out the barrel and bolt to build as a 5.56mm gun? i'm not going to buy a kit if i have to throw out most of the parts...

I just checked their website and it's not there, but at one point Arsenal did offer a 5.56 Krinkov with a 16" barrel. I don't remember the model number but there have to be some used ones out there. Standard Krink sights and gas block, just with a long skinny barrel sticking out past them.

Just pick up a SLR-106UR from Arsenal. It's a 5.56 krink. They are out of production, will cost you about $1100-1300. Thats a lot easier and less expensive than buying a 5.45 kit and changing out parts and having it built.

already have a 106UR. just the long wait on my form 1's now.

reason i ask is because i'd like to build one too, and i still want it in 5.56.

Not sure really. I do know that Bulgarian and Chinese 5.56 AK's are AKM based. Romanian and Russian 5.56 rifles are 74 based I believe.

I've built many 5.56 AKs from Polish Tantals and Bulgarian AK-74 kits.
I made my own barrel from Remingon 700 .223 barrels.

I've used Galil (never do that again. You have to modify the trunnion), Bulgarian .223, East German bakelites with Robinson followers, and Promag.
Promags don't fit the most magwell. Way loose.

So, you will need barrel and magazine.
